In 2027, Sweden has five public holidays on weekdays and Norway has six. Four dates are shared: 1 January, 26 and 29 March, and 6 May. Agree the unloading day with the receiver before you book.

- Under section 10-10 of the Norwegian Working Environment Act, employees have free time from 15:00 on Christmas Eve, Easter Eve and Whitsun Eve, and from 18:00 on the day before other Sundays and holidays.

## Long weekends and bridge days in 2027

Five periods in 2027 need extra planning: Easter in late March, Ascension in early May, Whitsun in Norway in mid May, Midsummer in Sweden in late June, and Christmas. A bridge day is a working day between a holiday and a weekend. Friday 7 May is a bridge day in both countries.

Holiday periods

Five holiday periods for loads to Sweden and Norway in 2027

Five periods to plan around in 2027, weekends included. Dates from Swedish and Norwegian law.

1. 25–29 Mar
Easter. Norway from Thursday 25 March, Sweden from Friday 26 March, both to Monday 29 March.
2. 6–7 May
Ascension Day on Thursday in both countries. Friday 7 May is a bridge day.
3. 15–17 May
Norway only. Whit Monday and Constitution Day are both on Monday 17 May.
4. 25–26 Jun
Sweden only. Midsummer Eve on Friday, Midsummer Day on Saturday.
5. 24–26 Dec
Christmas Eve on Friday in both countries, then the weekend.

Each receiver sets its own hours. Ask for its closed days before you book.

Lag (1989:253) om allmänna helgdagar (riksdagen.se); lov om helligdager og helligdagsfred, § 2, and lov om 1\. og 17\. mai (lovdata.no); checked 24 October 2026

Easter is the longest break in Norway. With the weekend, the holidays on Thursday 25, Friday 26 and Monday 29 March make a five-day break. In Sweden, Good Friday and Easter Monday make a four-day break from 26 to 29 March.

In Norway, 17 May 2027 is Constitution Day and Whit Monday on the same date. With Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 May, the break runs for three days. In Sweden, Whit Monday is not a public holiday, so Monday 17 May is a normal working day there.

Midsummer Eve in Sweden falls on Friday 25 June, and Midsummer Day on Saturday 26 June. Christmas Eve falls on Friday 24 December in both countries, and 25 and 26 December fall on the weekend. New Year’s Eve is Friday 31 December.

- Sweden and Norway: Friday 7 May sits between Ascension Day and the weekend. It is a normal working day.
- Sweden: Monday 4 and Tuesday 5 January sit between the weekend and Epiphany on Wednesday 6 January. They are normal working days.
- Ask the receiver whether it works on these days before you plan a delivery for one of them.

## Sweden: the holiday law and the three eves

Sweden sets its public holidays in the Public Holidays Act (1989:253). The act lists every Sunday, including Easter Sunday and Whit Sunday, and 11 other named days. In 2027, five of the named days fall on a weekday: 1 January, 6 January, 26 March, 29 March and 6 May.

Six named days fall on a weekend in 2027: 1 May, National Day on Sunday 6 June, Midsummer Day on 26 June, All Saints’ Day on 6 November, and 25 and 26 December. Easter Sunday on 28 March and Whit Sunday on 16 May are Sundays anyway. The act has no rule that moves a holiday from a weekend to a weekday, so these days bring no extra day off.

Midsummer Day is always the Saturday between 20 and 26 June. All Saints’ Day is always the Saturday between 31 October and 6 November.

Midsummer Eve, Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve are not public holidays in the act. In 2027, all three fall on a Friday. Section 3 a of the Swedish Annual Leave Act (1977:480) counts these three eves like a Sunday. Agreements and the employer decide whether a site works on them, so ask the receiver.

## Norway: holidays, 1 and 17 May and the eves

Norway sets its public holidays in the Public Holidays Act of 24 February 1995\. Section 2 lists ten named days and every Sunday. A law from 1947 makes 1 and 17 May public holidays that count as Sundays. In 2027, six of these dates fall on a weekday, and 17 May is also Whit Monday.

Five named days fall on a weekend in 2027: Easter Sunday on 28 March, 1 May on a Saturday, Whit Sunday on 16 May, and 25 and 26 December. The Norwegian law has no rule that moves a holiday to a weekday either.

Section 10-10 of the Norwegian Working Environment Act gives employees free time from 18:00 on the day before a Sunday or a public holiday. On Christmas Eve, Easter Eve and Whitsun Eve, the free time starts at 15:00\. In 2027, Christmas Eve falls on a Friday, so a Norwegian site may close early that day.

Under the same section, work on Sundays and public holidays in Norway is allowed only when the nature of the work requires it, or by written agreement. Ask the receiver for its hours before you plan a delivery near a holiday.

## Driving bans, customs hours and loads between Lithuania and the Nordics

Sweden has no general holiday driving ban for trucks. We found no general holiday ban for Norway in official sources (checked October 2026). A Swedish ordinance from 1977 that kept heavy trucks off some roads on set days is no longer in force since 1 January 2011\. Local or temporary restrictions can still apply.

RNJ Transport runs 2 MAN TGX own trucks, and they mostly carry full loads between Lithuania and Sweden. The trucks cross the Baltic Sea by ferry from Klaipėda to Karlshamn or Trelleborg. For loads between Lithuania and Norway, we book checked partner carriers. You have one contact person and one invoice for the whole load.

Check the holidays at both ends of the route. Thursday 24 June is a public holiday in Lithuania, and Friday 25 June is Midsummer Eve in Sweden. Christmas Eve, 24 December, is a public holiday in Lithuania too. Our post on public holidays in Lithuania and Latvia has the full 2027 list for the loading side.

Norway is outside the EU, so loads to and from Norway need customs declarations. Norwegian Customs publishes separate holiday opening hours for some customs offices. Check the hours of your crossing for the holiday weeks. Our post on Digitoll explains what must reach Norwegian Customs before the truck arrives.

## Holiday checklist for loads to Sweden and Norway in 2027

Use these steps for any load that arrives in a week with a public holiday.

1. ### Check the country of delivery
Sweden and Norway share four weekday holidays. Sweden adds 6 January. Norway adds 25 March and 17 May.
2. ### Mark the long breaks
Easter from 25 to 29 March in Norway, Ascension on 6 and 7 May, Whitsun to 17 May in Norway, and Christmas from 24 December.
3. ### Ask about the eves
Ask a Swedish receiver if it works on 25 June, 24 December and 31 December. Ask a Norwegian receiver for its hours on 24 December.
4. ### Check the loading side
Thursday 24 June and Friday 24 December are public holidays in Lithuania. Plan the loading day around them.
5. ### Book early
Ask for a price as soon as you know the loading date. Give us the route, the date, the load size and the receiver’s closed days.

## Frequently asked questions

1. How many public holidays on weekdays do Sweden and Norway have in 2027?
Sweden has five, and Norway has six. In Sweden, they are 1 January, 6 January, 26 March, 29 March and 6 May. In Norway, they are 1 January, 25, 26 and 29 March, 6 May and 17 May. Four dates are holidays in both countries. Sweden also has three eves on Fridays, which are not public holidays.
2. Is Midsummer Eve a public holiday in Sweden?
No. Midsummer Eve is not on the list in the Swedish Public Holidays Act. Midsummer Day, Saturday 26 June 2027, is the public holiday. The Swedish Annual Leave Act counts Midsummer Eve, Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve like a Sunday. Agreements and the employer decide if a site works. For a delivery on Friday 25 June 2027, ask the receiver first.
3. Is 17 May 2027 a public holiday in Norway?
Yes. Monday 17 May 2027 is both Constitution Day and Whit Monday (andre pinsedag). With Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 May, Norway has a three-day break. In Sweden, Whit Monday is not a public holiday, so 17 May is a normal working day there. Plan Norwegian deliveries for Friday 14 May or Tuesday 18 May.
4. Are there truck driving bans in Sweden or Norway on public holidays?
No general ban. Sweden has no general holiday driving ban for trucks, and we found none for Norway in official sources (checked October 2026). Local or temporary restrictions can still apply. A day without a ban does not mean that the receiver is open, so check its closed days before you book.
5. Do Norwegian warehouses work on Christmas Eve 2027?
Plan for the morning only. Christmas Eve, Friday 24 December 2027, is a working day in Norway. Section 10-10 of the Working Environment Act gives employees free time from 15:00 that day. Work after 15:00 is allowed only when the nature of the work requires it, or by agreement. Plan the delivery for the morning, or for 23 December.
6. When is Easter 2027 in Sweden and Norway?
Easter Sunday is on 28 March 2027\. In Norway, Maundy Thursday (25 March), Good Friday (26 March) and Easter Monday (29 March) are public holidays, so the break runs for five days. In Sweden, Good Friday and Easter Monday are public holidays, so the break runs for four days. Maundy Thursday is a working day in Sweden.
