Metalworking leads, helped by a Norwegian-owned industrial park on Pašilės street. The park has run since 2004 on a former factory site and added a new building with a sheet-metal line. On the E272 route, the A2 connects Vilnius in the south with Panevėžys and Via Baltica in the north. The A6, part of the E262 route, runs south-west to Kaunas and north-east to Utena, Zarasai and Daugavpils. With no railway in the town, trucks carry all its freight. For Latvia, the A6 towards Daugavpils reaches the border at Medumi after about 117 km, and Via Baltica reaches Grenctāle after about 142 km.
