# Road freight for food and drink

RNJ Transport arranges food and drink transport from Klaipėda. The routes are the Netherlands and Belgium to Lithuania and Latvia, Germany with the Baltic states, and Lithuania with Sweden and Norway. For ambient food and drinks, we book clean, dry curtainsiders. Chilled and frozen food travels in partner reefer trailers, because we own no reefers.

- RNJ Transport owns no reefer trailers. Chilled and frozen food travels in partner reefer trailers.
- For ambient food and drinks, we book a clean, dry curtainsider without smell. You tell us which goods your food must not share a trailer with.
- A full truck of drinks often reaches its weight limit of about 24 tonnes before the floor is full.
- For a chilled or frozen load, the shipper sets the temperature on the transport order.
- Norway is outside the EU, so food loads to and from Norway need export and import declarations.

## Food and drink loads we arrange

RNJ Transport arranges road freight for ambient food, drinks, food ingredients and food packaging, and for chilled and frozen food in partner reefers. Loads range from a few pallets to a full trailer. A Baltic importer that buys FCA or EXW books the truck. A Lithuanian producer that exports usually books the truck to its buyer.

This page is for food importers and distributors in Lithuania and Latvia that buy from the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. It is also for Lithuanian food producers that export to Sweden, Norway, Germany and the Netherlands, and for retail chain warehouses.

- Dry food, tins and jars
- Confectionery and snacks
- Drinks: water, juice, beer and soft drinks
- Food ingredients and food packaging
- Chilled and frozen food, in partner reefer trailers

## Trucks and loading for food and drink

Ambient food and drinks travel on a standard curtainsider. EU food hygiene rules (Regulation (EC) No 852/2004) say that vehicles carrying food are kept clean and in good repair. We ask the carrier for a clean, dry trailer without smell. Tell us which goods your food must not share a trailer with. We plan the load for that rule.

Drinks are heavy for their size. A standard trailer carries about 24 tonnes on 33 floor places, which is about 727 kg per pallet on average. A full truck of drinks often reaches that weight limit before the floor is full. Send us the weight per pallet, and we plan the truck by weight.

Chilled and frozen food travels in partner reefer trailers. RNJ Transport owns no reefers. You set the temperature on the transport order. We ask the carrier to cool the trailer before loading.

## Routes for food and drink

RNJ Transport arranges food and drink loads on three routes. Many trucks run from the Netherlands and Belgium to Lithuania and Latvia every week, so we can usually find a checked truck for your date. Loads between Germany and the Baltic states run both ways. Between Lithuania and Sweden, our own MAN TGX trucks take full loads of ambient food and drinks when the dates fit.

Loads to and from Norway travel with checked partner carriers. Chilled and frozen loads on every route travel in partner reefer trailers. We confirm the dates for your load together with the price.

## Documents for food and drink loads

Every international food load travels with a CMR consignment note, the invoice and a packing list. For a chilled or frozen load, the set temperature goes on the transport order and on the CMR. Some retail warehouses ask for their booking number and their own delivery papers. Send us their list when you book.

The ATP is a United Nations agreement on the international carriage of perishable foodstuffs. It sets the rules for the special equipment, such as insulated and refrigerated trailers, and for testing and certifying that equipment.

Alcohol under excise duty suspension travels with an electronic administrative document (e-AD) in the EU system EMCS. The sender issues the e-AD before the truck leaves. Tell us when a load includes beer or other alcohol, and check the excise rules with your customs agent.

Norway is outside the EU, so loads to and from Norway need export and import declarations. Tell us who makes them when you book.

## How a food load runs

A food load runs in six steps, from your request to the signed CMR and one invoice. One contact person at RNJ Transport follows the load. Retail warehouses unload by booked slot, so we plan the trip with time to spare before the slot.

1. ### You send the load details
Product, ambient or chilled, pallets, weight, addresses, dates and the warehouse slot.
2. ### We choose the trailer
A clean curtainsider for ambient goods, or a partner reefer for chilled and frozen food.
3. ### You get one price
We confirm the price, the dates and the documents the load needs.
4. ### Loading
For a reefer, we ask the carrier to cool the trailer to your temperature before loading. The pallet count goes on the CMR.
5. ### Delivery in the booked slot
We follow the truck and call you and the warehouse early if the arrival time changes.
6. ### Documents and one invoice
You get a copy of the signed CMR, a temperature record if you asked for one, and one invoice.

## What sets the price for food and drink

Six things set the price of a food load: weight or loading metres, route, trailer type, pickups and drops, warehouse slots and waiting time. For drinks, the weight usually sets the price. A reefer usually costs more than a curtainsider. Drinks that must not freeze in winter may need one.

Call us or request a callback with the route, date and load size. Our Prices page lists every factor.

## What to send for a price

1. Product and packing: ambient, chilled or frozen
2. The temperature you set, for chilled or frozen goods
3. Number of pallets, pallet type and loaded height
4. Weight per pallet and total weight
5. Pickup and delivery addresses, dates and the booked warehouse slot
6. Documents the receiving warehouse asks for
7. Whether the load includes alcohol under excise duty suspension
8. Whether the goods must not freeze in winter

## Frequently asked questions

1. Does RNJ Transport have its own reefer trucks?
No. RNJ Transport owns no reefer trailers. Our own trucks pull curtainsiders, which suit ambient food and drinks. For chilled and frozen food, we book a checked partner carrier with a reefer trailer. You keep one contact person and get one invoice, whichever truck drives.
2. Can food travel in a curtainsider?
Yes, ambient food can. Dry food, tins, jars, snacks and drinks travel in a clean, dry curtainsider without smell. EU food hygiene rules say that vehicles carrying food are kept clean and in good repair. Tell us which goods your food must not share a trailer with, and we plan the load for that rule.
3. How many pallets of drinks fit on one truck?
Often fewer than 33, because of weight. A standard curtainsider takes 33 euro pallets on the floor and carries about 24 tonnes. That is about 727 kg per pallet on average. Heavier drinks pallets reach the weight limit before the floor is full. Send us the weight per pallet, and we tell you how many fit.
4. Which temperature can you arrange for chilled or frozen food?
You set the temperature your product needs on the transport order. We then look for a partner reefer trailer that can hold it. We confirm the temperature with the carrier before we give you a price. Tell us the product too, because some foods need a narrow range. We ask the carrier to cool the trailer before loading. The set temperature goes on the CMR.
5. Can I get a temperature record after delivery?
Ask for it before loading. EU rules require trucks that carry quick-frozen food to record the air temperature during the trip. For chilled food, we ask the carrier for the record when you need it. We send the record with the copy of the signed CMR after delivery. Tell us if the receiving warehouse needs it at unloading.
6. Can you deliver to a retail warehouse booking slot?
Yes. Send us the booking number and the slot time when you book. We give them to the carrier, plan the trip with time to spare and follow the truck on the road. If the arrival time changes, we call you and the warehouse before the slot. Some warehouses also ask for their own delivery papers, so send us their list.
7. What documents does a food load to Norway need?
Export and import declarations, plus the CMR consignment note, the invoice and the packing list. Norway is in the European Economic Area but outside the EU customs union. Plan the declarations before loading, and tell us who makes them when you book. Check with your customs agent which other papers the product needs.
