Solar modules, inverters, rails, cable drums

# Road freight for solar and energy equipment

RNJ Transport arranges road freight for solar and energy equipment from Klaipėda. The main routes run from warehouses in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany to Lithuania and Latvia. Typical loads are solar modules on pallets, inverters, mounting rails, cable drums and battery storage units. We focus on full truckloads.

- Solar modules are glass panels, usually packed standing on edge on pallets. Follow the stacking rule the manufacturer prints on the packaging.
- A full pallet of large solar modules can weigh close to a tonne. RNJ Transport needs the weight per pallet for a price.
- Lithium batteries can be dangerous goods under ADR. We do not carry ADR loads. Tell us before booking when a load includes them.
- RNJ Transport’s main route runs from the Netherlands and Belgium to Lithuania and Latvia. Many trucks run this route every week, so we can usually find a checked truck for your date.
- For a solar park delivery, we need the access road, the unloading machine, the delivery window and a site contact.

## Solar and energy freight we arrange

RNJ Transport arranges trucks for three kinds of solar customers. Installers and contractors build solar parks and rooftop systems in Lithuania and Latvia. Wholesalers hold stock in warehouses in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. Lithuanian buyers who buy from those warehouses EXW or FCA book the truck themselves. Under DAP, the wholesaler books the truck and delivers to the buyer.

We have delivered solar modules for solar parks with a total area of 1,000 hectares. The same planning covers inverters, rails, cable drums and batteries, each with its own checks.

- Solar modules (panels): on pallets, usually standing on edge, from a few pallets to a full trailer
- Inverters: boxed electronics on pallets, with a high value per kg
- Mounting systems: aluminium or steel rails and frames, in long bundles or on heavy pallets
- Cable drums: heavy and round, so they must not roll
- Battery storage units: heavy, and lithium batteries can be dangerous goods under ADR
- Several trucks for one solar park: our Project and multi-truck loads service plans the dates and the slots

## Trucks and loading for solar equipment

Most solar equipment travels on a standard curtainsider trailer. The trailer is about 13.6 metres long, takes about 24 tonnes and loads by forklift from the side or the back. Module pallets need the most care. The modules are glass, usually packed standing on edge, and a full pallet can weigh close to a tonne.

Follow the stacking rule the manufacturer prints on the packaging. Put nothing on top of module pallets unless the packaging allows it. Strap each pallet and put corner protectors under the straps. Check the weight per pallet. A trailer full of heavy module pallets can come close to the payload limit.

## Routes for solar equipment

Solar equipment fits RNJ Transport’s main route, from the Netherlands and Belgium to Lithuania and Latvia. Many trucks run this route every week, so we can usually find a checked truck for your date. Loads from Germany go to Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. We book checked partner carriers on both routes.

Solar projects run on fixed schedules. Plan the trucks early, especially for a solar park with a fixed installation week. For several trucks on fixed dates, our Project and multi-truck loads service plans each truck.

- Netherlands and Belgium to Lithuania and Latvia: full truckloads with checked partner carriers
- Germany to Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia: full truckloads
- Several trucks for one solar park: a planned date or slot for each truck

## Documents for solar loads

Every international load travels with a CMR consignment note. Inside the EU, EU goods need no customs declaration. A load from a Dutch, Belgian or German warehouse to Lithuania needs none. Goods still in a customs warehouse need more documents.

Tell us at booking if your goods are not yet cleared in the EU, and check the transit rules with your customs agent. RNJ Transport does not carry dangerous goods (ADR). If the load includes lithium batteries, tell us before booking, so we can tell you whether we can take the load.

## How a solar load runs

A solar load runs in six steps, from your load details to the signed CMR. You have one contact person at RNJ Transport for the whole load. Many warehouses need the truck number to book a loading slot. We send it to you before the loading day.

1. ### You send the load details
Send the pallets, their size and weight, the stacking rule, the pickup warehouse and the delivery site.
2. ### We plan the truck
We plan the floor space for the stacking rule. Then we choose a full truck with a checked partner carrier.
3. ### You confirm the price
We send the price for your load. You confirm it with a written transport order.
4. ### Truck details for the warehouse
You get the truck and trailer plate numbers to book the loading slot at the warehouse.
5. ### We follow the truck
We follow the truck and give the site contact the arrival time, so the unloading machine is ready.
6. ### CMR and one invoice
The site contact counts the pallets and signs the CMR. You get a copy and one invoice from RNJ Transport.

## What sets the price of solar freight

Four things set the price of a solar load: the floor space in loading metres, the weight, the route and the conditions at delivery. Module pallets that cannot be stacked use more floor space. A fixed delivery window at a solar park, or waiting time for unloading, also changes the price.

Call us or request a callback with the route, date and load size. Our Prices page lists every factor.

## What to send for a price

1. Pickup warehouse and delivery site, with postcodes
2. Loading date and the delivery window
3. Number of pallets, and the size and height of each pallet
4. Weight per pallet and the total weight
5. Stacking rule from the packaging
6. Who unloads at the site, and with which machine
7. Whether the load includes lithium batteries
8. The trade term (EXW, FCA or DAP) and the value of the goods

## Frequently asked questions

1. Can solar panel pallets be stacked on a truck?
Only if the manufacturer allows it. The stacking rule is printed on the packaging or in the packaging data sheet, and it differs between models. Some packaging allows two pallets high, some allows none. Send us the rule with the booking. We plan the floor space for it, and nothing goes on top unless the packaging allows it.
2. How many pallets of solar modules fit on one truck?
Usually fewer than 33, the number of euro pallets on a standard curtainsider. Module pallets are longer than a euro pallet, because most modules are longer than 1.2 metres. Heavy pallets can also reach the payload limit of about 24 tonnes first. Send the pallet size and weight, and we calculate the space for your load.
3. Are lithium batteries dangerous goods on a truck?
Usually, yes. Lithium batteries can be dangerous goods under ADR, the agreement on the carriage of dangerous goods by road. RNJ Transport does not carry ADR loads. Tell us before booking when a load includes batteries. Send the UN number from the packaging and the safety data sheet. We then tell you whether we can take the load.
4. Can you deliver to a solar park construction site?
Yes, when a truck can reach the unloading place. A curtainsider needs a firm access road and room to unload from the side. Someone on site unloads it with a telehandler or forklift. Send the site address, the access route, the delivery window, and the name and phone number of the site contact.
5. Who books the truck when I buy from a Dutch warehouse?
Under EXW or FCA, you as the buyer book the truck. Under DAP, the seller books it and delivers to your address. RNJ Transport works for the party that books. Our Incoterms guide explains each rule and who loads the truck at the warehouse.
6. Can I send only a few pallets of modules?
We focus on full truckloads. We take a part load only in some cases, when it fits a truck we already plan on our main routes. For one or two pallets, a pallet delivery company is often a better fit. Send the pallet count, size and weight, and we tell you if we can take the load.
7. How much is the carrier liable for under CMR?
Up to 8.33 SDR per kg of gross weight under the CMR Convention, about 10 EUR per kg. As an illustration, take an inverter of 25 kg. The carrier’s liability stops at about 250 EUR, whatever the inverter costs. Tell us the value of the goods when you book, so we can talk about cover before the truck leaves.
