## Goods, load sizes and who books the truck

RNJ Transport arranges road freight for consumer goods that Baltic distributors buy from warehouses in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. Loads range from a few mixed pallets to a full trailer of 33 euro pallets. The trade term decides who books the truck: the buyer under FCA or EXW, the supplier under DAP.

This page is for distributors, wholesalers, retail chains and online shops in Lithuania and Latvia that restock from these warehouses. It is also for Dutch, Belgian and German suppliers that sell DAP to customers in the Baltic states.

- Household goods and kitchenware
- DIY, tools and garden goods
- Electronics and small appliances
- Toys and sports goods
- Cosmetics, perfume and personal care
- Clothing and footwear
- Pet supplies and shop supplies

## Trucks and loading for retail goods

Most retail goods travel on a standard curtainsider trailer. It takes 33 euro pallets on the floor, about 13.6 loading metres, and carries about 24 tonnes. Curtainsiders load from the back at a dock, or from the side with a forklift. Mixed pallets need clear labels, so each warehouse can count them quickly.

Some warehouses exchange euro pallets. The driver then gives the same number of empty pallets for the loaded ones. Tell us before booking if your supplier or your warehouse expects an exchange. The carrier must know before loading, because the driver needs the empty pallets on board.

## Routes for retail goods

RNJ Transport arranges most retail loads on two routes. The main one is the Netherlands and Belgium to Lithuania and Latvia. Many trucks run this route every week, so we can usually find a checked truck for your date. The second is Germany to the Baltic states. Both routes suit full truckloads.

One truck can collect from several warehouses when they lie on one route. Send us every pickup address. We confirm the plan and the dates together with the price.

## Documents and goods value for retail loads

Every international road load travels with a CMR consignment note. EU goods that move inside the EU need no export or import declaration. Put the pallet count, the weight and your reference numbers on the transport order. The warehouses use the references to find your goods and to check the delivery. The table shows what each document is for.

Electronics, cosmetics and clothing have a high value per kg. Under the CMR Convention, the carrier’s liability is limited to 8.33 SDR per kg of gross weight, about 10 EUR per kg. As an illustration, take one pallet of electronics that weighs 300 kg. Its CMR limit is about 3,000 EUR, whatever the goods are worth. Tell us the value of the goods when you book, so we can talk about cover before the truck leaves.

Perfume, some cosmetics with alcohol and lithium batteries in electronics can be dangerous goods under ADR. ADR is the international agreement on dangerous goods by road. RNJ Transport does not carry ADR loads. Tell us before booking when a load includes them, so we can tell you whether we can take the load.

| Packing list | What is on each pallet |
| Pickup or order reference | The number the supplier’s warehouse uses to release the goods |
| Pallet exchange note | How many pallets the driver exchanged, when the warehouse exchanges pallets |

## How a retail load runs

A retail load runs in six steps, from your request to the signed CMR and one invoice. One contact person at RNJ Transport follows the load the whole way. You get the truck and trailer plate numbers before loading, so each warehouse can register the truck for its slot.

1. ### You send the order details
Pickup and delivery addresses, ready date, pallet count, weight, references and the warehouse slots.
2. ### We confirm the price and the plan
We check the route, any extra pickups and the dates, then send one price.
3. ### We book a checked carrier
We check the partner carrier before the load. Then you get the truck and trailer plate numbers for the slot booking.
4. ### Loading in the warehouse slot
The driver loads in the booked slot. The pallet count and references go on the CMR.
5. ### Delivery to your warehouse
The truck unloads in your slot. We follow the load and call you if the arrival time changes.
6. ### Documents and one invoice
You get a copy of the signed CMR with the pallet count and your references. One invoice comes from RNJ Transport.

## What sets the price for retail freight

Five things set the price of a retail load: loading metres or weight, route, number of pickups and drops, warehouse slots and waiting time. Light, bulky goods are priced by floor space. Pallets that cannot be stacked use more floor. Call us or request a callback with the route, date and load size.

Our Prices page lists every factor.

## What to send for a price

1. Pickup and delivery addresses, with every supplier warehouse
2. Ready date and the time slots at both warehouses
3. Number of pallets, pallet type and loaded height
4. Total weight and weight per pallet
5. Whether the pallets can be stacked
6. Order or pickup reference numbers
7. Value of the goods, for electronics, cosmetics or clothing
8. Whether the load includes perfume, cosmetics with alcohol or lithium batteries

## Frequently asked questions

1. Who books the truck when we buy FCA or EXW from a Dutch supplier?
You do, as the buyer. Under FCA and EXW, the buyer books and pays for the main transport. Under DAP, the seller books the truck to your warehouse. Send us the supplier’s address, the ready date and the pallet details, and we arrange the truck. Our Incoterms guide explains each rule.
2. Can one truck collect from several warehouses?
Yes, when the warehouses lie on one route. Send us every pickup address and the ready dates. We check the route and the slots, and we confirm the plan together with the price. Each extra stop takes time, so it can change the price. You keep one contact person and get one invoice for the whole truck.
3. Do you move a few pallets, or only full trucks?
We focus on full truckloads. We take a part load only in some cases, when it fits a truck we already plan on our main routes. For one or two pallets, a pallet delivery company is often a better fit. Send us the pallet count and weight, and we tell you which option fits.
4. How do you plan for warehouse time slots?
We plan the truck for the slots at both ends. Send us the loading slot at the supplier and the delivery slot at your warehouse when you book. We give the slot times to the carrier and follow the truck on the road. If the arrival time changes, we call you and the warehouse early. If the warehouse gives a booking number, send it too.
5. Do you exchange euro pallets?
Ask us before booking. Some warehouses ask the driver for the same number of empty euro pallets as the loaded ones. The carrier must know before loading, because the driver needs the empty pallets on board. Our euro pallet guide explains the pallet sizes and the marks on a euro pallet.
6. How much is CMR liability for electronics or cosmetics?
At most 8.33 SDR per kg of gross weight, about 10 EUR per kg, when the carrier is liable. The limit counts weight, not value. As an illustration, a 300 kg pallet of electronics has a CMR limit of about 3,000 EUR. Tell us the value of the goods when you book, so we can talk about cover before the truck leaves.
7. What if my load includes perfume or lithium batteries?
Tell us before booking. Perfume, some cosmetics with alcohol and lithium batteries can be dangerous goods under ADR. ADR is the international agreement on dangerous goods by road. The product and the quantity decide which ADR rules apply. RNJ Transport does not carry ADR loads. Send us the safety data sheet or the UN number before booking. We then tell you whether we can take the load.
