## Road route from Lithuania to Bulgaria

The road route from Klaipėda to Sofia is about 2,150 km. The truck drives through Poland, past Košice in Slovakia and past Debrecen in Hungary. It enters Romania at Borș, near Oradea, and crosses the Danube on the bridge between Calafat in Romania and Vidin in Bulgaria. The whole route is inside the EU.

Bulgaria and Romania have been full Schengen members since 1 January 2025\. A route through Serbia is about 100 km longer. On it, EU goods leave the EU and need a transit declaration in NCTS or a TIR carnet.

Bulgaria uses the same time as Lithuania all year. When it is 10:00 in Klaipėda, it is also 10:00 in Sofia.

## Tolls and driving bans for trucks in Bulgaria

Since 1 March 2020, vehicles over 3.5 t pay a toll for each kilometre on paid Bulgarian national roads. The toll replaced the e-vignette for these vehicles. The price depends on the weight, the emission class, the number of axles and the road type. The carrier pays with an on-board unit or buys a route pass before the trip.

The Bulgarian Road Infrastructure Agency (API) limits trucks over 12 t on the Trakia, Hemus and Struma motorways at peak hours on public holidays. The agency announces the days and hours before each holiday. Our price includes the tolls, and we plan delivery days around these limits.

## Winter rules for trucks in Bulgaria

From 15 November to 1 March, Bulgarian law requires tyres for winter conditions on all vehicles. Tyres with a tread depth of at least 4 mm also meet the rule. Studded tyres are not allowed on Bulgarian roads. Drivers use snow chains only when the road conditions require them.

Snow can slow a truck in winter. Agree a delivery window with the receiver, and send us the loading date early.

## Documents for loads between Lithuania and Bulgaria

Both countries are in the EU customs territory, so EU goods travel between them without an export declaration and without customs formalities. Every load travels with a CMR consignment note. Add the invoice and a packing list, so the receiver can check the goods at delivery.

If the route crosses a country outside the EU, the load travels with a transit document. Goods from outside the EU that are not yet cleared also need a transit document. Tell us before loading.
