## Road and ferry routes from Lithuania to Denmark

A truck from Klaipėda reaches Denmark by road or by ferry. The road route to Copenhagen is about 1,920 km. It runs through Poland past Warsaw and Poznań, through Germany past Berlin, and north into Jutland. From Jutland, it crosses Funen and the Great Belt Bridge to Zealand and Copenhagen.

Truck ferries also sail from Klaipėda to Fredericia in Jutland and to Køge on Zealand. Each route has its own timetable. The ferry replaces the drive through Poland and Germany. We compare the road and the ferry for your loading and delivery places and your date.

On the road route, the truck follows the rules of Poland and Germany too. Both countries ban heavy trucks on public holidays, and Germany also on Sundays. Our post on holiday driving bans lists the dates around Christmas and New Year.

## Road tolls and driving rules for trucks in Denmark

Since 1 January 2025, Denmark charges trucks of 12 tonnes or more a road toll per kilometre. The toll depends on the distance and the truck’s CO2 emissions. It covers the state roads and parts of the municipal roads, about 10,900 km. The kilometre toll replaced the time-based Eurovignette.

The carrier pays the toll through an on-board unit from a European toll service provider (EETS), or buys a digital kilometre toll ticket. The Great Belt Bridge and the Øresund Bridge are not part of the kilometre toll. Trucks pay a separate toll to cross them.

Denmark plans two changes. From 5 January 2027, trucks over 3.5 tonnes are expected to pay the toll too. From 1 January 2028, the toll is planned to cover the whole public road network. RNJ Transport includes road and bridge tolls in the price we agree with you.

- Driving bans: Denmark has no truck driving ban on weekends or public holidays.
- Low emission zones: Copenhagen, Frederiksberg, Aarhus, Aalborg and Odense have zones with rules for trucks.
- Time: Denmark is one hour behind Lithuania.

## Documents for loads between Lithuania and Denmark

Both countries are in the EU customs territory, so EU goods travel between them without an export declaration and without customs formalities. Every load travels with a CMR consignment note. Add the invoice and a packing list, so the receiver can check the goods at delivery.

If the route crosses a country outside the EU, the load travels with a transit document. Goods from outside the EU that are not yet cleared also need a transit document. Tell us before loading.

## Frequently asked questions

1. Do I need customs documents for goods to Denmark?
No. Denmark is in the EU, so EU goods from Lithuania need no export declaration and no customs clearance. Poland and Germany on the road route are in the EU too. The load travels with a CMR consignment note, the invoice and a packing list. Tell us before loading if the goods are not yet cleared.
2. How long does a truck drive from Klaipėda to Copenhagen?
About 68 hours with one driver and about 41 hours with two, on the road route of about 1,920 km. This is driving time under EU driving and rest rules, at an average of 60 km/h. It is not a delivery promise. We give you the planned delivery date with the price.
3. Is there a ferry from Klaipėda to Denmark?
Yes. Truck ferries sail from Klaipėda to Fredericia in Jutland and to Køge on Zealand. Each route has its own timetable, so we check the sailing for your date. The price we agree covers the whole trip, including the ferry, and you get one invoice from RNJ Transport. Send the route, the date and the load size in the price form.
4. Do trucks pay road tolls in Denmark?
Yes. Since 1 January 2025, trucks of 12 tonnes or more pay a toll per kilometre on about 10,900 km of Danish roads. The toll depends on the distance and the CO2 emissions. The Great Belt and Øresund bridges have their own tolls. The carrier pays, and we include the tolls in your price.
5. Are there truck driving bans in Denmark?
No. Denmark has no truck driving ban on weekends or public holidays. Some cities have low emission zones, for example Copenhagen, Aarhus and Odense. On the road route, Poland and Germany ban heavy trucks on public holidays, and Germany also on Sundays. On public holidays, many warehouses are closed, so ask the receiver in advance.
