The truck drives through Poland, Germany, Belgium and France, enters Spain at Irun and continues past Burgos and Salamanca. It enters Portugal at Vilar Formoso and reaches Lisbon on the A25, the A23 and the A1\. The route needs no ferry. With two drivers, the drive to Lisbon takes about 93 hours under the EU rules on driving and rest. One driver cannot drive this distance inside six days, so the trip also needs a weekly rest. On some roads, the truck stops at a toll plaza. On electronic-only roads, gantries above the road detect the vehicle, and there is no toll booth. On these roads, the carrier pays with an electronic toll device or another official payment method. Some toll devices from other countries also work in Portugal. Since 1 January 2025, Law 37/2024 has removed the tolls on the A4, A13, A13-1, A22, A23, A24, A25 and parts of the A28\. The fastest road route from Spain to Lisbon uses the A25 and the A23\. The price we give you includes the tolls on the route, and you get one invoice from RNJ Transport. ## Truck rules in Porto and driving bans in Portugal Since 15 September 2026, goods vehicles over 3.5 t with three or more axles may not use the VCI ring road in Porto (IC1/IC23) on working days from 07:00 to 21:00\. Trucks that load or unload in Porto or Vila Nova de Gaia may use the VCI. Each of these trips must first be registered on the cities’ online platform. The registration needs a transport document with the loading and unloading places, the start date and time and the truck’s number plate. The recommended other road is the CREP ring road (A41/IC24). Trucks with three or more axles pay no toll on the A41, every day and at any time. We found no general weekend ban for trucks in Portugal (checked October 2026). On the way through Spain, the Spanish traffic authority DGT bans trucks over 7.5 t on some road sections on set days. One example is parts of the A-62 towards Portugal. ## How a load runs to Portugal For this route, we book a checked partner carrier. We call you if anything changes. 6. ### Delivery, CMR and one invoice After delivery, you get the signed CMR and one invoice from RNJ Transport. ## Documents for loads between Lithuania and Portugal Both countries are in the EU customs territory, so EU goods travel between them without an export declaration and without customs formalities. Every load travels with a CMR consignment note. Add the invoice and a packing list, so the receiver can check the goods at delivery. If the route crosses a country outside the EU, the load travels with a transit document. Goods from outside the EU that are not yet cleared also need a transit document. No. Portugal and Lithuania are both in the EU, so EU goods need no export declaration and no customs formalities. A CMR consignment note travels with every load. Since 1 January 2025, the A4, A13, A13-1, A22, A23, A24, A25 and parts of the A28 have no tolls. Trucks with three or more axles pay no toll on the A41 around Porto.
