## Road route from Lithuania to Switzerland

The fastest road route from Klaipėda to Bern is about 2,110 km. The truck drives through Poland and Germany on motorways and enters Switzerland at Basel. Here the goods leave the EU customs territory. From Basel, the truck follows the A2 and A1 motorways to Bern.

Poland and Germany charge road tolls for trucks for each kilometre. The driving bans of both countries also apply on the way. The price we agree includes the road tolls in every country on the route.

Switzerland is one hour behind Lithuania all year. When it is 10:00 in Klaipėda, it is 09:00 in Bern. Give the loading and delivery times in the local time of each address.

## Heavy vehicle fee and driving bans in Switzerland

In Switzerland, every goods vehicle and trailer over 3.5 t pays the heavy vehicle fee, called LSVA. Switzerland charges it for each kilometre on every road in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. The fee depends on the total weight and the emission class of the vehicle. A foreign truck records the kilometres with an approved device, or the driver declares them. Our price includes the fee.

Trucks may not drive in Switzerland at night, from 22:00 to 05:00\. They may also not drive on Sundays and on national public holidays. The bans cover heavy goods vehicles over 3.5 t, articulated vehicles over 5 t and vehicles with a trailer over 3.5 t. Since 1 July 2026, transports of perishable goods and of animals are exempt.

## Customs documents for Switzerland

Switzerland is not in the EU customs union. Goods that cross the Swiss border need an export declaration on one side and an import declaration on the other. Every load also travels with a CMR consignment note and the invoice. We arrange the customs declarations with a trusted partner and explain before booking which documents your load needs.

Since 1 January 2024, Switzerland charges no import duty on industrial goods, chapters 25 to 97 of the customs tariff, with some exceptions. The goods still need an import declaration, and the importer pays Swiss VAT on import. Send the invoice and the commodity codes early, so the truck does not wait at the border.

## Frequently asked questions

1. Do I need customs documents for goods to Switzerland?
Yes. Switzerland is not in the EU customs union, so goods need an EU export declaration and a Swiss import declaration. We arrange the customs declarations with a trusted partner. The truck also carries a CMR consignment note and the invoice. Send the commodity codes with the load details, so the papers are ready before the border.
2. How long does a truck drive from Lithuania to Switzerland?
About 71 hours with one driver and about 44 hours with two drivers, from Klaipėda to Bern. This is driving time under the EU driving and rest rules, at 60 km/h on average. It is not a delivery promise, because loading, customs and driving bans add time. We give the planned delivery date with the price.
3. Can trucks drive in Switzerland at night or on Sundays?
Not as a rule. Switzerland bans trucks over 3.5 t from 22:00 to 05:00 every night, and all day on Sundays and national public holidays. Since 1 July 2026, transports of perishable goods and of animals are exempt. For other loads, we plan the trip so that the truck crosses the border and reaches the receiver in the allowed hours.
4. Is the Swiss heavy vehicle fee included in the price?
Yes. The price we agree includes the Swiss heavy vehicle fee (LSVA) and the road tolls in every other country on the route. You get one fixed price and one invoice from RNJ Transport. Ask us if the customs declarations are part of the price for your load. The importer pays the Swiss VAT on import.
5. Do you also carry loads from Switzerland to Lithuania?
Yes, on request. We arrange full truckloads from Switzerland to Lithuania with checked partner carriers. A load from Switzerland needs a Swiss export declaration first. The goods then enter the EU and need an EU import declaration. You have one contact person until delivery.
