Road and sea route to Iceland
The road leg from Klaipėda to the Hirtshals ferry port in Denmark is about 1,960 km. Trucks drive through Poland, Germany and Denmark. From Hirtshals, ships sail via Tórshavn in the Faroe Islands to Seyðisfjörður in east Iceland and to Þorlákshöfn in south Iceland. The sea crossing comes on top of the road leg.
The ships sail on fixed days, and the schedules change with the season. We plan the road leg to the sailing day. Our price includes the road tolls and the ferry crossing.
Iceland is two hours behind Lithuania in winter and three hours behind in summer, because Iceland does not change to summer time.
Customs documents for Iceland
Iceland is in the European Economic Area (EEA), but it is not in the EU customs union. A load from Lithuania needs an EU export declaration and an Icelandic import declaration. Before booking, we explain which customs documents your load needs. We arrange the customs declarations with a trusted partner.
With the import declaration, Iceland Revenue and Customs (Skatturinn) asks for the invoice, a transport document and the freight bill. Proof of origin is needed when the importer claims a lower duty under a trade agreement. It can be a certificate of origin or a statement of origin on the invoice. Send these papers early, so the declarations are ready before the ship arrives.

We found no general truck driving ban for Iceland in official sources (checked October 2026). The Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration publishes road conditions at umferdin.is and on the phone line 1777. We agree the delivery window with you before the truck leaves.

Is Iceland in the EU?
No. Iceland is in the European Economic Area (EEA) and applies EU rules on the free movement of goods. Iceland is not in the EU customs union, so goods need customs declarations in both directions. Agriculture and fisheries are outside the EEA agreement. Tell us the goods before booking, and we explain which documents your load needs.
-
Do you carry loads from Iceland to Lithuania?
Yes, on request. The load needs an export declaration in Iceland and an EU import declaration. The goods arrive by ship in Hirtshals in Denmark. They are cleared in the EU there, or they travel under transit to Lithuania and are cleared there. Before booking, we check the route with a partner carrier. -
Do trucks pay a road charge in Iceland?
Yes. Since 1 January 2026, Iceland charges a kilometre fee for all vehicles. A foreign truck of 10 tonnes or more logs its odometer reading when it arrives and when it leaves, and pays by the distance it drives. The fee rises with the weight of the vehicle. The carrier pays it, and it is part of the one price we agree.
