Road route from Lithuania to Romania

The road route from Klaipėda to Bucharest is about 2,040 km. The truck drives through Poland, past Košice in Slovakia and past Debrecen in Hungary. It enters Romania at Borș, near Oradea, and continues on motorways and national roads through Sibiu and Pitești to Bucharest. The whole route is inside the EU, and no ferry is needed.

Romania has been a full Schengen member since 1 January 2025. Schengen covers the movement of people. The customs rules for EU goods did not change on that day.

Romania uses the same time as Lithuania all year. When it is 10:00 in Klaipėda, it is also 10:00 in Bucharest.

Road tolls for trucks in Romania

Since 1 October 2026, trucks over 3.5 t in Romania pay TollRo, a road toll for each kilometre. It applies on national roads, expressways and motorways. The price depends on the distance, the road type and the truck’s Euro emission class. Goods vehicles up to 3.5 t still use the rovinieta e-vignette.

The carrier pays TollRo, and our price includes it. There are three ways to pay:

  • A route ticket. The carrier buys it up to 72 hours before the trip, and it is valid for 72 hours on one route.
  • The TollRo mobile app, which counts the kilometres by GPS.
  • From 15 January 2027, a contract with an approved toll service provider.

Temporary driving bans and winter rules in Romania

The Romanian national road administration announces temporary bans for trucks over 7.5 t on some roads. In heat waves, the bans often run from 12:00 to 20:00 in the counties with a heat warning. Each announcement gives the roads and the hours. It also lists exceptions, for example perishable food and live animals. We plan loading and delivery days around these bans.

In Romania, the winter rule applies when snow or ice covers the road. On such a road, a truck over 3.5 t must have winter tyres on the wheels of the drive axle. Instead, it can have snow chains or another certified anti-skid device fitted on those wheels. The law sets no fixed dates for this rule.

Snow in the Carpathians can slow a truck in winter. Agree a delivery window with the receiver, and send us the loading date early.

Documents for loads between Lithuania and Romania

Both countries are in the EU customs territory, so EU goods travel between them without an export declaration and without customs formalities. Every load travels with a CMR consignment note. Add the invoice and a packing list, so the receiver can check the goods at delivery.

If the route crosses a country outside the EU, the load travels with a transit document. Goods from outside the EU that are not yet cleared also need a transit document. Tell us before loading.

Frequently asked questions

  1. How long does a truck drive from Lithuania to Romania?

About 70 hours with one driver and about 43 hours with two drivers, from Klaipėda to Bucharest. This is driving time under the EU driving and rest rules, at 60 km/h on average. It is not a delivery promise, because loading, traffic and driving bans add time. We give the planned delivery date with the price.

  2. Do I need customs documents for a load to or from Romania?

No customs declarations, if the goods are EU goods. Lithuania and Romania are both in the EU. A CMR consignment note travels with every load. Add the invoice and a packing list, so the receiver can check the goods at delivery. Goods from outside the EU that are not yet cleared need a transit document.

  3. What is TollRo?

TollRo is the Romanian road toll for trucks over 3.5 t, charged for each kilometre. It started on 1 October 2026 on national roads, expressways and motorways. The price depends on the distance, the road type and the Euro emission class. The carrier pays TollRo, and the price we agree includes it.

  4. Did joining Schengen change the documents for loads to Romania?

No. Romania has been a full Schengen member since 1 January 2025, and Schengen covers the movement of people. The documents for goods stayed the same. Romania has been in the EU since 1 January 2007, so EU goods need no customs declaration. A CMR consignment note travels with every load.
