Road route from Lithuania to Albania
The road route from Klaipėda to Tirana is about 2,420 km. It runs through Poland, Czechia, Slovakia and Hungary. The truck leaves the EU at the Röszke–Horgoš crossing between Hungary and Serbia, then crosses Serbia and Montenegro. It enters Albania at the Hani i Hotit border crossing, north of Shkodër, and continues south to Tirana.
In Montenegro, the truck uses the toll motorway from Mateševo to Podgorica. RNJ Transport books a checked partner carrier for this route. Before booking, we agree the route and the documents with the carrier and with our customs partner. Albania uses Central European Time, one hour behind Lithuania.
Road rules for trucks in Albania
Albania charges road tolls on the Milot–Morinë motorway and on the Thumanë–Kashar road. On Milot–Morinë, the vehicle class depends on the number of axles, twin wheels, height and trailers. Drivers pay in lek, in euro banknotes, by bank card or with the operator’s electronic tag.
Albania has no general weekend or holiday ban for trucks. Towns can limit trucks on some streets or at some hours. Road signs show these limits.
Customs and documents for Albania
Albania is not in the EU customs union. A load from Lithuania needs an EU export declaration in Lithuania and an import declaration in Albania. Serbia and Montenegro are both parties to the Common Transit Convention, so one transit declaration in NCTS (common transit) can cover the trip through both countries to the Albanian border.
Albania is preparing to join the convention. At the Albanian border, the goods are declared for import, or they continue under Albanian transit to an inland customs office. A TIR carnet is another option. It can cover the whole trip, because Albania and all countries on the route are parties to the TIR Convention. Before booking, we explain which documents your load needs. We arrange the customs declarations with a trusted partner. Every load travels with a CMR consignment note.
