Road freight for construction and building materials

RNJ Transport arranges trucks for construction and building materials from Klaipėda. The routes run from Lithuania to Sweden and Norway, and from the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany to the Baltic states. Typical loads are windows, doors, wall elements, steel structures and insulation. Our own trucks run mostly between Lithuania and Sweden. Checked partner carriers drive the other routes.

  • RNJ Transport’s own 2 MAN TGX trucks run full loads mostly between Lithuania and Sweden. Loads to Norway travel on checked partner trucks.
  • Norway is outside the EU. A load from Lithuania to Norway needs an EU export declaration and a Norwegian import declaration.
  • A standard curtainsider trailer takes about 24 tonnes. Heavy materials such as steel often reach that limit before the floor is full.
  • Windows and glass travel upright on racks or A-frames, strapped to the frame, with the edges protected.
  • For a site delivery, RNJ Transport needs the delivery slot, the site contact, and who unloads with which machine.

Construction freight we arrange

RNJ Transport arranges trucks for three kinds of construction customers. Lithuanian manufacturers export windows, doors, wall elements, timber-frame houses, steel structures and insulation to Sweden, Norway and Germany. Builders and building material shops in Lithuania and Latvia buy materials in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. Contractors need several trucks for one site.

The trade term decides who books the truck. On exports to Sweden and Norway, the Lithuanian manufacturer usually books it. A builder in Lithuania or Latvia that buys EXW or FCA books the truck too. Under DAP, the seller books it. Our Incoterms guide explains each rule.

For one project, we delivered a complete ventilation system for a data centre in Sweden. Our Project and multi-truck loads service plans this kind of delivery.

  • Windows and doors: on racks, A-frames or pallets, from a few racks to a full trailer
  • Wall elements and timber-frame house kits: long and light for their size, loaded in the order the site needs them
  • Steel beams, columns and structures: long and heavy, so the weight limit often comes first
  • Insulation boards and rolls: light and bulky, so the floor fills before the weight limit
  • Palletised materials such as tiles, dry mixes and fixings: full truckloads
  • Several trucks for one site: our Project and multi-truck loads service plans the dates and the slots

Trucks and loading for building materials

Most building materials travel on a standard curtainsider trailer. It is about 13.6 metres long, takes about 24 tonnes and loads from the side or the back. Many curtainsiders also open the roof for crane loading. Large wall elements and house modules may need special trailers. We book those with partner carriers, on request.

A building site usually has no loading dock. A curtainsider opens along its whole side. A forklift, telehandler or crane can unload it from the side or from above. Tell us who unloads, with which machine, and how a truck reaches the site.

Routes for construction freight

RNJ Transport plans construction freight on four routes. Our own 2 MAN TGX trucks run full loads mostly between Lithuania and Sweden. That route fits Lithuanian exports to Swedish customers. Loads to Norway travel on checked partner trucks. Materials from the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany travel to Lithuania and Latvia on checked partner trucks.

Ask us for the dates on your route. With more notice, a truck for a fixed loading date is easier to find.

  • Lithuania to Sweden: our own trucks, full loads
  • Lithuania to Norway: checked partner carriers, with export and import customs
  • Netherlands and Belgium to Lithuania and Latvia: full truckloads with checked partner carriers
  • Germany and the Baltic states, in both directions: full truckloads

Documents for construction loads

Every international load travels with a CMR consignment note. Inside the EU, EU goods need no customs declaration, so loads to Sweden, Germany or the Baltic states need none. Norway is outside the EU. A load to Norway needs an EU export declaration and a Norwegian import declaration.

Since 15 September 2026, Norwegian Customs also needs digital data about the truck and the goods. The data must arrive by the border crossing at the latest. Tell us at booking who handles customs at both ends. Check the details with your customs agent. Our blog post on Digitoll explains the Norwegian rules.

How a construction load runs

A construction load runs in six steps, from your order details to the signed CMR. You have one contact person at RNJ Transport from the first call to the invoice. For several trucks to one site, our Project and multi-truck loads service plans the dates and the slot for every truck.

  1. You send the order details

Send the goods, the sizes and weights, the loading date and the delivery window or site slot.

  2. We plan the truck

We choose the trailer and plan how the site unloads it. Our own truck takes loads to Sweden when the dates fit. A checked partner carrier takes other routes.

  3. You confirm the price

We send the price for the route and the site slot. You confirm it with a written transport order.

  4. Truck details before loading

You get the truck and trailer plate numbers for the factory gate. For Norway, have the customs documents ready by the loading day.

  5. We follow the truck

We follow the truck to the site. If the time changes, we tell the site contact early.

  6. CMR and one invoice

The person who receives the goods at the site signs the CMR. You get a copy and one invoice from RNJ Transport.

What sets the price of construction freight

Five things set the price of a construction load: the route, the floor space, the weight, the trailer and the site conditions. Light, bulky insulation fills the floor before the weight limit. Heavy steel can reach the weight limit with free floor space left. Fixed delivery slots and waiting time at the site also change the price.

Call us or request a callback with the route, date and load size. Our Prices page lists every factor.

What to send for a price

  1. Pickup and delivery addresses, with postcodes
  2. Loading date, and the delivery window or site slot
  3. Type of goods and how they are packed: racks, A-frames, pallets or loose
  4. Size and weight of each piece or pallet, and the total weight
  5. Length of the longest piece
  6. Who unloads at the site, and with which machine
  7. For Norway: who handles customs at both ends
  8. The value of the goods

Frequently asked questions

  1. Can you transport windows and glass?

Yes, on racks or A-frames. Windows and glass travel upright, strapped to the frame, with the edges protected. Tell us the rack type, the number of racks, their size and weight, and who returns the empty racks. We then book a truck that fits the racks. Special glass trailers are possible with partner carriers, on request.

  2. Do building materials to Norway need customs documents?

Yes. Norway is outside the EU, so the load needs an EU export declaration and a Norwegian import declaration. Since 15 September 2026, Norwegian Customs also needs digital data about the truck and the goods by the border crossing. Tell us at booking who handles customs at both ends. The CMR consignment note travels with the load as on any international trip.

  3. Can you deliver to a building site without a forklift?

Yes, when the site has another machine to unload, such as a telehandler or a crane. A standard curtainsider has no crane of its own. A truck with its own crane is possible with partner carriers, on request. Tell us what the site has before booking. Send the site address and the weight of the heaviest piece.

  4. How long can steel beams or wall elements be?

Up to about 13.6 metres on a standard curtainsider, the length of the trailer floor. Longer or wider pieces need an extendable or special trailer, which we book with partner carriers on request. Send the length, width, height and weight of the largest piece. We then check which trailer fits and how the piece loads.

  5. Who books the truck for materials from the Netherlands?

The trade term decides. Under EXW or FCA, the buyer in Lithuania or Latvia books the truck. Under DAP, the Dutch seller books it and delivers to the buyer. RNJ Transport works for the party that books the truck. Our Incoterms guide explains each rule and who loads the truck.

  6. Can you send several trucks to one building site?

Yes. Our Project and multi-truck loads service plans several trucks on fixed dates for one site. Send the delivery schedule, the site address and the slot for each truck. You have one contact person for every truck, and all invoices come from RNJ Transport. With more notice, trucks are easier to find.

  7. How much is the carrier liable for under CMR?

Up to 8.33 SDR per kg of gross weight under the CMR Convention, about 10 EUR per kg. As an illustration, take a 5-tonne load of windows. The carrier’s liability stops at about 50,000 EUR, whatever the windows cost. Tell us the value of the goods when you book, so we can talk about cover before the truck leaves.
