Road freight for machinery and factory equipment

RNJ Transport arranges road freight for machinery and factory equipment from Klaipėda, Lithuania. Our routes run from Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium to the Baltic states, and between Lithuania and Sweden. We plan the trailer, the loading and the securing for each machine. You get one contact person, a copy of the signed CMR and one invoice.

  • RNJ Transport arranges road freight for machines, spare parts and precision instruments from Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium to Lithuania and Latvia.
  • A standard curtainsider trailer is about 2.45 m wide and about 2.7 m high inside. Many curtainsiders can open the roof for crane loading.
  • Under the CMR Convention, the carrier’s liability for loss or damage is limited to 8.33 SDR per kg of gross weight, about 10 EUR per kg.
  • For a machine price, RNJ Transport needs the weight, the dimensions, the lifting points, the loading method at both ends and the value of the goods.
  • Machines that move between EU countries need no customs declarations. A CMR consignment note travels with every international load.

Machinery freight we arrange

RNJ Transport arranges trucks for production machines, used machines, spare parts, tools and precision instruments. A load can be one machine on a full truck or a production line on several trucks. We focus on full truckloads. Our routes for machinery run between Western Europe and the Baltic states.

The trade term (Incoterms) decides who books the truck. A Lithuanian or Latvian factory that buys EXW or FCA from a German, Dutch or Belgian supplier books it. A supplier that sells DAP books the truck to the buyer’s door. Lithuanian makers of equipment, lasers and instruments that sell DAP book the trucks to their EU customers.

  • Production machines: laser-cutting machines, CNC machines, press brakes, packaging lines
  • Used machines, bought from a factory or a dealer
  • Spare parts and tools on pallets or in crates
  • Precision instruments, lasers and optics in crates
  • Industrial components for assembly lines

Trucks and loading for machinery

Most machines travel on a standard curtainsider trailer. The trailer is about 13.6 m long, about 2.45 m wide and about 2.7 m high inside, with about 24 tonnes of payload. Curtainsiders load from the side and the back. Many can also open the roof, so a crane can lift a machine into the trailer from above.

Plan the lifting at both ends of the trip: a forklift that takes the weight, a crane or a loading dock. Tell us which, so we book a truck that fits. A machine higher than about 2.7 m or wider than about 2.45 m does not fit inside a standard curtainsider.

Oversize machines need special trailers. These are possible with partner carriers, on request. A load wider than 2.55 m, the normal EU width limit for a truck, needs special permits. Ask us early and send the exact dimensions.

A machine on a skid or in a crate needs straps or chains, and anti-slip mats under it. Agree before loading who places them. Our load securing guide explains the rules.

Routes for machinery loads

RNJ Transport arranges machinery loads on these routes. Machines and parts from Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium go to Lithuania and Latvia on checked partner trucks. Our own trucks run between Lithuania and Sweden. Lithuanian makers of equipment send loads to customers in other EU countries with checked partner carriers.

We do not transport goods to or from Russia or Belarus.

  • Netherlands and Belgium to Lithuania and Latvia: full truckloads with checked partner carriers.
  • Germany to the Baltic states: full truckloads for machines, parts and tools.
  • Lithuania and Sweden: our own 2 MAN TGX trucks with curtainsider trailers, mostly full loads.
  • Other EU countries: checked partner carriers. Ask us for your route.

Documents, customs and liability

Every international machinery load travels with a CMR consignment note. Machines and parts that move between EU countries need no customs declarations. Goods from outside the EU, or to and from Norway, need customs declarations. Tell us who makes them before loading. If you have no customs broker, our partner broker can make the declarations. You get a copy of the signed CMR after delivery.

Lithium batteries can be dangerous goods under ADR. RNJ Transport does not carry ADR loads. If a machine or a spare part includes them, tell us before booking, so we can tell you whether we can take the load.

Under the CMR Convention, the carrier is liable for loss or damage between pickup and delivery. The limit is 8.33 SDR per kg of gross weight, about 10 EUR per kg. Here is an illustration with example numbers. A machine weighs 2,000 kg and is worth 150,000 EUR. Its CMR limit is at most about 20,000 EUR.

Tell us the value of the goods when you book, so we can talk about cover before the truck leaves. Our guide on CMR liability explains the limit and the exceptions.

How a machinery load runs

A machinery load with RNJ Transport runs in six steps, from your request to the signed CMR and one invoice. One contact person follows the load from start to end. You talk to us, not to the carrier. We tell you early if the arrival time changes, so you can plan the installers.

  1. You send the machine details

Send the weight, the dimensions, the lifting points, the loading method at both ends, the dates and the value of the goods.

  2. We plan the truck and the price

We choose the trailer and plan the lift at both ends. You get a price for the truck.

  3. You confirm in writing

You confirm the price and send a written transport order with the installation date.

  4. Truck numbers before loading

We tell the carrier how the machine is lifted and secured. You get the truck and trailer plate numbers.

  5. We follow the load

We follow loading, the trip and unloading. If the arrival time changes, we tell you early, so you can plan the installers and the crane.

  6. Signed CMR and one invoice

The receiver checks the machine and signs the CMR. You get a copy and one invoice from RNJ Transport.

What sets the price of a machinery load

Six things set the price of a machinery load: route, weight, floor space in loading metres, trailer type, loading method and waiting time. Nothing can stand on top of a machine that cannot be stacked, so you pay for all the floor it covers. Crane loading through the roof and special trailers change the price.

A fixed delivery date for the installers and extra stops also change the price. Call us or request a callback with the route, the date and the load size.

Our Prices page lists every factor.

What to send for a price

  1. Weight of each machine or crate
  2. Length, width and height of each piece
  3. Lifting points and centre of gravity
  4. Loading and unloading method: forklift, crane or loading dock
  5. Packing: skid, crate or pallets, and whether it can be stacked
  6. Pickup and delivery addresses, with the date the installers arrive
  7. Value of the goods
  8. Shock-sensitive parts, lithium batteries, or goods from outside the EU

Frequently asked questions

  1. Who is liable for a machine during transport?

The carrier, up to a limit. Under the CMR Convention, the carrier is liable for loss or damage between pickup and delivery. The limit is 8.33 SDR per kg of gross weight, about 10 EUR per kg. For a valuable machine, this limit can be much lower than its value. Tell us the value of the goods when you book, so we can talk about cover before the truck leaves.

  2. Can a machine be loaded by crane?

Yes, on many curtainsiders. Many curtainsider trailers can open the roof, so a crane can lift the machine into the trailer from above. Tell us when you book that the loading is by crane. We then look for a truck with a roof that opens. Plan the crane at the loading site and at delivery. Send the weight and the lifting points too, so the crane team can plan the lift.

  3. Can you move a machine that is too wide or too high for a normal trailer?

Ask us. Oversize machines need special trailers, which are possible with partner carriers, on request. A load wider than 2.55 m, the normal EU width limit for a truck, needs special permits. Send the exact dimensions, the weight and the lifting points early, so we can plan the trailer and the permits before loading.

  4. Do I need customs for a machine from Germany or the Netherlands?

No. EU goods that move between EU countries need no customs declarations. The load travels with a CMR consignment note and your delivery papers. A machine from outside the EU, or to and from Norway, needs customs declarations. Tell us who makes them when you book. Our guide on customs inside the EU explains more.

  5. Can you send one spare part on a pallet?

We focus on full truckloads. We take a part load only in some cases, when it fits a truck we already plan on our main routes. For one or two pallets, a pallet delivery company is often a better fit. When the part is urgent, ask us about a dedicated truck. A single small box suits a parcel service better.

  6. How should precision instruments and lasers be packed?

In a crate that stays upright. Mark the crate with arrows that show which way is up, and add shock indicators. Mark the lifting points too. Tell us before booking that the load is sensitive to shocks. We then tell the carrier that the crate must stay upright and plan the loading with you.

  7. Can you deliver on the day the installers arrive?

Yes. Tell us the installation date when you book, and we plan the truck for that date. We follow the load on the road. If the arrival time changes, we tell you early, so you can plan the installers. For a production line on several trucks, we plan the trucks in the order the installers need. A fixed delivery date is part of the price.
