Winter equipment for trucks in French mountain areas
From 1 November to 31 March, trucks need winter equipment in French mountain areas. Each prefect lists the communes where the rule applies. A truck with a trailer or semi-trailer must carry snow chains for at least two drive wheels, even when it has winter tyres.
A truck without a trailer can carry chains or use winter tyres on at least two steering wheels and two drive wheels. Since 1 November 2024, a winter tyre must have the alpine symbol (3PMSF) and an M+S marking. Give us the full delivery address, so we can check the route.
