Freight forwarding with checked partner carriers

RNJ Transport is a freight forwarder in Klaipėda, Lithuania. We book a partner carrier for your load, check that carrier before every load, and give you one contact person for your load until delivery. You get the truck details before loading, the signed CMR consignment note after delivery, and one invoice from RNJ Transport.

  • A freight forwarder organises the transport and books the truck. A carrier owns the truck and drives it.
  • RNJ Transport checks every partner carrier before every load: licence, insurance, company registry, a phone call to a known number, and plate numbers.
  • You have one contact person for your load, from the price to the CMR.
  • You get one invoice from RNJ Transport, also when a partner carrier drives the truck.

What a freight forwarder does

A freight forwarder organises the transport of your goods and books the truck for you. A carrier owns the trucks and drives them. RNJ Transport does both: we run our own trucks, and we forward loads to partner carriers when our trucks are busy or do not run your route.

As your forwarder, we find the truck, agree the price, check the carrier, follow the load and send you the documents. You do not search freight exchanges, and you do not deal with a carrier you do not know.

Forwarder and carrier: the difference for you

The difference is who owns the truck and who finds it. A carrier sells space on its own trucks, on its own routes. A forwarder finds a suitable truck on any route and manages it for you. RNJ Transport holds EU licence LIC-008592-EBKR as a carrier and also works as a forwarder.

How we check a partner carrier

We check every partner carrier before every load, also carriers we know well. The check has five points: the transport licence, the insurance, the company registry record, a phone call to a number we already know, and the plate numbers. If one point fails, we do not book that carrier.

The phone call to a known number and the plate check confirm that the company and the truck at your dock are the ones we booked.

  1. Transport licence

We check that the carrier holds a valid EU licence for international road transport.

  2. Insurance

We check that the carrier’s liability insurance is valid on the loading date.

  3. Company registry

We check the company in its national registry: status, address and debts.

  4. Phone call to a known number

We call the carrier on a number we already know, not a number from a new email.

  5. Plate numbers

We get the truck and trailer plate numbers before loading and send them to you.

Freight exchanges and our own check

RNJ Transport uses freight exchanges to find extra trucks, like most forwarders in Europe. An exchange shows which trucks are free on a route. An exchange does not check the carrier for you. We do that check ourselves before we book any truck we find there.

You can also book on an exchange yourself. Then you check the carrier, you follow the truck and you ask for the CMR. With us, our transport team does that work and you get one invoice.

What sets the forwarding price

The forwarding price is one fixed price for the whole move. The price covers the carrier and our work: finding the truck, checking it, following the load and sending the documents. The route, the date, the load size and the number of free trucks that week change it. Send the route, the date and the load size in the price form, or call us.

Our Prices page explains each price factor.

Good fit

  • Companies without their own transport team
  • Routes where our own trucks do not run
  • Shippers who want one contact and one invoice for every load
  • Shippers who want every carrier checked before loading

Not a good fit

  • Companies that want to choose and pay the carrier themselves
  • Shippers who only want the lowest price on the day
  • Parcels and single boxes: we move pallets and full trailers

Frequently asked questions

  1. What is freight forwarding?

Freight forwarding means a company organises the transport of your goods for you. The forwarder finds a truck, agrees the price, checks the carrier, follows the load and handles the documents. RNJ Transport forwards loads across Europe with checked partner carriers, and runs its own trucks between Lithuania and Sweden.

  2. What is the difference between a forwarder and a carrier?

A carrier owns trucks and drives your load. A forwarder organises the transport and books a carrier for you. RNJ Transport is both. We hold EU licence LIC-008592-EBKR and run our own trucks, and we forward loads to checked partner carriers on other routes.

  3. How do you check a carrier?

We check five points before every load: the transport licence, the insurance, the company registry record, a phone call to a number we already know, and the truck and trailer plate numbers. If one point fails, we book a different carrier. We do this for new carriers and for carriers we know.

  4. Who do I call if the truck is late?

You call your contact person at RNJ Transport. We follow the truck during the trip and call you first if the loading or delivery time changes. You do not need to call the carrier. You still get the driver’s phone number before loading, in case you need it on the day.

  5. Do I get one invoice or two?

One. You get one invoice from RNJ Transport for the whole move, also when a partner carrier drives the truck. We pay the carrier ourselves, and the carrier does not send you an invoice. The invoice shows the fixed price we agreed when you booked. After delivery, we send you the signed CMR consignment note and the invoice.

  6. Who is liable if my goods are damaged?

The carrier is liable under the CMR Convention, up to a limit. Under the CMR Convention, the carrier is liable for loss or damage up to 8.33 SDR per kilogram of gross weight, which is about 10 euros per kilogram. You report the damage to us, and we contact the carrier and help you with the claim. If your goods are worth more, tell us their value when you book, so we can talk about cover before the truck leaves.
