Customs clearance with your full truckload
RNJ Transport arranges customs with the transport, and our partner customs broker prepares the export and import declarations for your full truckload. This applies to loads that cross the EU customs border, for example between Lithuania and Norway. You order the truck and the declarations in one request and keep one contact person.
- Our partner customs broker prepares the export and import declarations. RNJ Transport arranges the transport and orders the declarations with it.
- Loads to and from Norway, the United Kingdom and Switzerland cross the EU customs border and need export and import declarations.
- EU goods moving between EU countries need no customs declaration.
- For the declarations, the broker needs the invoice, the packing list, an EORI number, the commodity codes, the value, the origin and the weights.
- You keep one contact person for the truck and the customs papers, and you get one invoice for the transport.

Customs declarations for full truckloads
RNJ Transport arranges customs declarations for full truckloads that we transport across the EU customs border. Our partner customs broker prepares the export and import declarations, not RNJ Transport. You order the declarations together with the truck, and our transport team stays your one contact. Parcels, cars and customs-only jobs are outside this service.
Norway is the country outside the EU on our main routes. Loads between Lithuania and Norway go with checked partner carriers. On request, we also arrange loads to the United Kingdom, Switzerland and other countries outside the EU.
Steps and roles on a load with customs
A load across a customs border has more parties than a load inside the EU. You send the goods documents. Our partner customs broker prepares the declarations. The carrier presents the goods at the border. The buyer or its broker clears import, unless you order it from us. RNJ Transport connects these steps and stays your one contact.
| Step | Who does it | When |
|---|---|---|
| Order for the truck and the declarations | You, the exporter or the importer | When you book |
| Invoice, packing list and goods data | You, to our transport team | Before loading |
| Documents and truck numbers for the broker | RNJ Transport | Before loading |
| Export declaration | Our partner customs broker, for the exporter | Before the truck leaves |
| Goods and MRN at the EU customs office of exit | The carrier | At the EU border |
| Digitoll messages for Norway | The carrier, or a customs representative | Before or at the Norwegian border |
| Import declaration | Our partner customs broker, or the buyer’s broker | Before the buyer receives the goods |
| Import duties and import VAT | The importer, as the Incoterm in the sales contract decides | At import |
| Signed CMR and the transport invoice | RNJ Transport | After delivery |
Documents for the declarations
The customs broker needs the same data for each declaration: the seller and the buyer, the goods, their value, their origin and their weight. Send the documents with your order, so the declarations are ready before the truck reaches the border. Our partner broker confirms the exact list for your goods and your country.
Inside the EU, EU goods need none of these declarations. Our guide Customs inside the EU explains the exceptions.
- Commercial invoice with the seller, the buyer, the Incoterm and the value of the goods
- Packing list with the number of packages and the gross and net weight
- EORI number of the EU exporter or importer
- Commodity code of each product, from the customs tariff
- Country of origin, and the proof of origin when the buyer claims a lower duty
- Any licence or certificate that your goods need
Export reference (MRN) and transit declaration (T1)
An accepted export declaration gets a reference number, the MRN. The MRN travels with the load. At the EU border, the driver presents the goods at the customs office of exit, and customs confirms that the goods left the EU. Some loads also need a transit declaration (T1), which lets goods travel under customs control.
A T1 is used mostly for goods from outside the EU that customs has not yet cleared. For example, goods from Norway can travel under a T1 to a customs office in Lithuania and be cleared there. Duties and taxes wait until the goods are cleared. Our partner broker tells you if your load needs a T1.
Norway, the United Kingdom and Switzerland
Norway, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are outside the EU customs union. A load between Lithuania and one of these countries crosses a customs border. The goods need an export declaration on one side and an import declaration on the other. For Norway, the carrier also sends Digitoll messages to Norwegian Customs before the border.
Our post Norway Digitoll for trucks explains these messages and their dates. Our pages for the United Kingdom and Switzerland list the customs documents for each country. RNJ Transport plans these loads with checked partner carriers, and the declarations with our partner customs broker.
Good fit
- Full truckloads between Lithuania and Norway, export or import
- Exporters who book the truck to a buyer outside the EU
- Importers who collect goods from a supplier outside the EU
- Shippers who want the truck and the customs papers from one contact
Not a good fit
- Parcels and single boxes: we move full truckloads
- Customs for cars or private imports
- Customs declarations without our transport
- Dangerous goods (ADR)
- Loads to or from Russia or Belarus
Frequently asked questions
-
Do I need customs for a load to Norway?
Yes. Norway is in the European Economic Area but outside the EU customs union. A load from Lithuania to Norway needs an EU export declaration and a Norwegian import declaration. Before the border, the carrier also sends Digitoll messages. Our partner customs broker can prepare the declarations when you order them with the truck.
-
Do loads inside the EU need customs?
No, not for EU goods. EU goods moving between EU countries need no export or import declaration. A load from the Netherlands to Lithuania travels with a CMR consignment note, the invoice and usually a packing list. Our guide Customs inside the EU explains the exceptions, for example excise goods and goods that customs has not yet cleared.
-
Who pays the import VAT and duties?
The importer pays them, and the Incoterm in the sales contract decides who the importer is. Under DDP, the seller clears import and pays the import duties and taxes. Under the other road rules, the buyer clears import. Our guide Incoterms for road freight explains each rule. The broker confirms the duties and taxes for your goods.
-
Can I use my own customs broker?
Yes. Tell us your broker’s contact details when you book. We then send your broker the documents and the transport details for the declarations, such as the truck and trailer numbers and the loading date. Your broker prepares the declarations, and we arrange the transport. You keep one contact person at RNJ Transport for the truck and get one invoice for the transport.
-
Can I order only the customs declarations, without the transport?
No. We arrange customs declarations only together with a full truckload that we transport. For customs papers alone, contact a customs broker directly. If you later need the truck too, send a request with the route, the goods and the loading date, and we arrange both together.
-
Which countries outside the EU do you reach?
Norway is on our main routes. On request, we also arrange loads to and from the United Kingdom, Switzerland and other countries outside the EU, with checked partner carriers. Each country page on our site lists the customs documents for that country. Before you book, we confirm that a partner carrier can take your route.
