Temperature-controlled loads with partner reefers

RNJ Transport forwards temperature-controlled loads to partner carriers that run reefer trucks. A reefer is a trailer with insulated walls and a cooling unit that holds a set temperature. We find the reefer, check the carrier, agree the price and follow the load. You talk only to us.

Our own trucks pull curtainsider trailers without cooling. Chilled or frozen goods never travel on them.

What to tell us about your load

A reefer price needs more detail than a dry load. Tell us the temperature range, the product and its packing, the number of pallets, the weight, and the places and dates. Also tell us if you need a temperature record for the whole trip. With exact details, we find a suitable reefer faster.

  • Temperature range in °C, for example chilled or frozen
  • Product name and packing
  • Number of pallets, pallet size and total weight
  • Pickup and delivery places and dates
  • Whether you need a temperature record after delivery

Temperature ranges and equipment

Reefer trucks in Europe carry chilled and frozen goods. The exact range we can arrange depends on the partner carrier and the trailer, so we confirm it for each load. The table shows what we confirm with the carrier before we give you a price.

How a temperature-controlled load runs

A temperature-controlled load runs in five steps, from your request to the invoice. The steps match a dry load, with one more check: the reefer must reach your temperature before loading. Our transport team follows the load and calls you if anything changes.

  1. You send the load details

Temperature range, product, pallets, weight, places and dates.

  2. We find a reefer

We look for a partner reefer truck on your route and check the carrier before we book it.

  3. You get a fixed price

We send one price for your route, date and temperature.

  4. Cooling and loading

The driver cools the trailer to your temperature before loading. The set temperature goes on the CMR.

  5. Delivery and documents

After delivery, you get the signed CMR consignment note and one invoice.

What sets the price

A reefer load usually costs more than the same load on a curtainsider. Reefer trucks are fewer, and the cooling unit uses fuel for the whole trip. The route, the date, the temperature, the load size and the weight set the price. Send the route, the date and the load size in the price form, or call us.

Our Prices page explains each price factor.

Good fit

  • Chilled or frozen food on pallets
  • Goods that must not freeze in winter, such as drinks or paints
  • Shippers who want one contact for dry loads and reefer loads

Not a good fit

  • Shippers who need a carrier with its own reefer trailers
  • Small parcels of chilled goods: we move pallets

Frequently asked questions

  1. Does RNJ Transport have its own reefer trucks?

No. RNJ Transport owns no reefer trailers. Our own trucks pull curtainsider trailers. For chilled and frozen goods, we book a partner carrier with a reefer truck and check that carrier before the load. You keep one contact person for your load until delivery.

  2. Which temperatures can you arrange?

Ask us for your temperature range. Reefer trucks can carry chilled or frozen goods, but each trailer has its own range. Tell us the product too, because some goods need a narrow range. We confirm the exact temperature with the carrier before we give you a price.

  3. What is a reefer truck?

A reefer truck pulls a refrigerated trailer. The trailer has insulated walls and a cooling unit that holds a set temperature during the trip. Reefers carry food, flowers and other goods that must stay cold, or must not freeze. RNJ Transport arranges reefers through partner carriers.

  4. Can I get a temperature record after delivery?

Ask for it before loading. Most reefer units record the temperature for the whole trip. When you need the record, we ask the carrier to send it with the CMR consignment note after delivery. Tell us also if the receiver needs the record before unloading.

  5. Who is liable if the temperature goes wrong?

The carrier is liable under the CMR Convention, up to a limit. Under the CMR Convention, the carrier is liable for loss or damage up to 8.33 SDR per kilogram of gross weight, which is about 10 euros per kilogram. If your goods are worth more, tell us their value when you book, so we can talk about cover before the truck leaves.

  6. Do reefer loads cost more?

Yes, usually. Reefer trucks are fewer than curtainsiders, and the cooling unit uses fuel during the whole trip. The price also changes with the route, the date, the temperature and the load size. Send the route, the date and the load size in the price form, or call us.
