Road route and Channel crossings

The road route from Klaipėda to London is about 2,250 km, including the crossing of the English Channel. Trucks drive through Poland, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and France to Calais. From Calais, the truck crosses on the Channel Tunnel freight shuttle to Folkestone, or by ferry to Dover. Ferries to Dover also sail from Dunkirk.

In the United Kingdom, traffic drives on the left. On motorways, the speed limit for trucks over 7.5 tonnes is 60 mph, about 96 km/h. The United Kingdom is two hours behind Lithuania all year.

Our price includes the road tolls and the Channel crossing. Before booking, we check that a partner carrier can take the route on your dates.

Customs documents for the United Kingdom

The United Kingdom is outside the EU customs union, so every load crosses a customs border. A load from Lithuania needs an EU export declaration and a UK import declaration. Since 31 January 2025, goods from the EU to Great Britain also need a safety and security declaration before they arrive. We arrange the customs declarations with a trusted partner.

At Dover and the Channel Tunnel, every truck with goods needs a goods movement reference (GMR) from the Goods Vehicle Movement Service (GVMS). The GMR links the declarations for all goods on the truck. The carrier gets it before the trip, and the driver shows it at check-in at the port of departure. Send the invoice and the commodity codes early, so the declarations are ready before loading.

Food, plants and animal products can need health certificates, and they can be checked at the UK border. Tell us the goods before booking. Northern Ireland has its own arrangements, so tell us if the load goes there.

The load travels with a CMR consignment note, the invoice and a packing list. We arrange the customs declarations with a trusted partner and tell you what to send.

  2. How long does the drive from Klaipėda to London take?

About 85 hours with one driver and about 56 hours with two drivers, for about 2,250 km. The Channel crossing adds time. This is the driving time under EU driving and rest rules, at 60 km/h on average. It is not a delivery promise. We give the planned delivery date with the price.

  3. What is the HGV levy?

The HGV levy is a UK road charge for trucks of 12 tonnes or more. A truck pays it for each day it drives on motorways and A roads. Trucks registered outside the UK pay by day, week, month or year. From 1 April 2026, a Euro 6 truck over 38 tonnes pays 9.67 GBP a day. The carrier pays the levy, and it is part of the one price we agree.

  4. Do you carry loads from the United Kingdom to Lithuania?

Yes, on request. The load needs a UK export declaration and an EU import declaration. Before the truck arrives in the EU, the carrier sends a safety and security declaration, the entry summary declaration. Before booking, we check that a partner carrier can take the route. You keep one contact person and get one invoice from RNJ Transport.

  5. Do food and plants need extra documents for the United Kingdom?

Yes, often. Animal products, plants and some food can need health certificates, and they can be checked at the UK border. Tell us the goods and the commodity codes before booking. We then explain which documents your load needs, and we arrange the customs declarations with a trusted partner.
