Public holidays in Lithuania and Latvia in 2027: a delivery calendar

RNJ Transport, a freight forwarder in Klaipėda, delivers to Lithuania and Latvia, where receivers usually do not work on public holidays. In 2027, each country has nine public holidays on weekdays. Four are shared: 1 January, 29 March, 24 June and 24 December. Book loads that arrive near these dates early and agree the unloading day with the receiver.

  • Lithuania has nine public holidays on weekdays in 2027 under article 123 of the Labour Code: 1 January, 16 February, 11 March, 29 March, 24 June, 6 July, 1 and 2 November, and 24 December.
  • Latvia has nine public holidays on weekdays in 2027 under its law on holidays: 1 January, 26 and 29 March, 4 May, 23 and 24 June, 18 November, and 24 and 31 December.
  • Easter Sunday 2027 is on 28 March. Good Friday, 26 March, is a public holiday in Latvia only. Easter Monday, 29 March, is a public holiday in both countries.
  • Under section 133 of the Latvian Labour Law, an employer may give a day off on a working day between a holiday and a weekend and move the work to a Saturday in the same month. In 2027, this can apply to 3 May, 25 June and 19 November.
  • Under section 135 of the Latvian Labour Law, the working day before a public holiday is one hour shorter, unless the contract already sets shorter hours.

Weekday public holidays in Lithuania and Latvia, 2027

Lithuania and Latvia each have nine public holidays that fall on a weekday in 2027. Four dates are holidays in both countries: Friday 1 January, Monday 29 March, Thursday 24 June and Friday 24 December. The other five dates differ by country, so a normal delivery day in Riga can be a holiday in Kaunas.

The table lists every weekday holiday in date order. Holidays on a Saturday or Sunday are in the country sections below. Each receiver sets its own hours, so ask the site for its closed days as well.

Long weekends and bridge days in 2027

Four periods in 2027 need extra planning: Easter in late March, Midsummer in late June, the start of November in Lithuania, and Christmas. A bridge day is a working day between a holiday and a weekend. Lithuania has four bridge days in 2027, and Latvia has three.

Holiday periods

Four holiday periods for deliveries to Lithuania and Latvia in 2027

Four periods to plan around in 2027, weekends included. Dates from Lithuanian and Latvian law.

  2. 23–24 Jun

Midsummer. Holidays in Latvia on 23 and 24 June, in Lithuania on 24 June.

  3. 30 Oct to 2 Nov

Lithuania only. Holidays on Monday 1 and Tuesday 2 November follow the weekend.

  4. 24–26 Dec

Christmas Eve on Friday, then the weekend. Latvia also has 31 December.

Each receiver sets its own hours. Ask for its closed days before you book.

Easter is the longest break in Latvia. With the weekend, the holidays on Friday 26 and Monday 29 March make a four-day break. In Lithuania, only Monday 29 March is a holiday, so the break runs for three days.

At Midsummer, Latvia has holidays on Wednesday 23 and Thursday 24 June, and Lithuania on Thursday 24 June. Friday 25 June is a bridge day in both countries. In Lithuania, the holidays on Monday 1 and Tuesday 2 November follow the weekend, so the break runs from Saturday 30 October to Tuesday 2 November.

Christmas Eve falls on Friday 24 December, and 25 and 26 December fall on the weekend. Latvia also has a holiday on Friday 31 December. Lithuania does not, so 31 December is a working day there.

  • Lithuania: Monday 15 February, Friday 12 March, Friday 25 June and Monday 5 July are bridge days. They are normal working days.
  • Latvia: Monday 3 May, Friday 25 June and Friday 19 November are bridge days. An employer may give a day off on these days and move the work to a Saturday in the same month.
  • Ask the receiver whether it works on a bridge day before you plan a delivery for that day.

Lithuania: the holiday list in the Labour Code

Article 123 of the Lithuanian Labour Code lists 16 public holiday days, and 9 of them fall on a weekday in 2027. People usually do not work on these days. An employee works on a holiday only with consent, unless the employer uses summarised working time or a collective agreement allows it.

The list has not changed since 1 January 2020, when All Souls’ Day (Vėlinės) on 2 November became a public holiday. In 2025, the Seimas did not adopt two bills that proposed changes to article 123. So the 2027 list is the same as the 2026 list.

Seven holiday days fall on a weekend in 2027: Easter Sunday on 28 March, 1 May, Mother’s Day on 2 May, Father’s Day on 6 June, 15 August, and 25 and 26 December. Article 123 has no rule that moves a holiday from a weekend to a weekday, so these days bring no extra day off.

Latvia: holidays, moved days and shorter working days

Latvia sets its public holidays in the law on holidays, commemoration days and celebration days. In 2027, the law gives 15 holiday days, and 9 of them fall on a weekday. Under section 144 of the Labour Law, employees do not work on public holidays, except where work must run without a break.

If 4 May or 18 November falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the next working day becomes a day off. In 2027, both dates fall on a weekday, so no day moves. Saturday 1 May is not moved either. The same weekend rule covers the closing day of the General Latvian Song and Dance Festival, which is also a holiday. The last festival ended on 9 July 2023.

The Latvian parliament (Saeima) can add a one-off holiday by changing the law. It did so for 24 September 2018 and for 29 May 2023. Check the law again before a delivery in a holiday week.

Section 133 of the Latvian Labour Law lets an employer give a day off on a bridge day and move the work to a Saturday in the same month. In 2027, the bridge days are 3 May, 25 June and 19 November. Section 135 makes the working day before a public holiday one hour shorter, unless the contract already sets shorter hours.

Loading and delivery around the 2027 holidays

A truck that reaches a closed receiver on a public holiday waits until the next working day. Plan the delivery date first, then set the loading date from it. For a load that arrives near a holiday, book early and agree the unloading date with the receiver in writing.

RNJ Transport plans loads from the Netherlands and Belgium to Lithuania and Latvia, between Lithuania and Sweden or Norway, and between Germany and the Baltic states. You have one contact person for the whole load. Tell us the receiver’s closed days when you book, and we plan the loading date around them.

Driving bans in other countries on the route are a separate check. Our post on holiday driving bans lists them for Christmas and New Year 2026/27. Our transit time guide shows how bans, rest and opening hours add time to a trip.
