Finding a truck in Lithuania: forwarder, carrier or freight exchange

RNJ Transport, a freight forwarder in Klaipėda, explains where Lithuanian companies find a truck. There are four ways: a forwarder, a carrier directly, a freight exchange such as cargo.lt, Trans.eu or TIMOCOM, and a groupage or parcel service. A forwarder finds and checks the truck for you. On an exchange, you check the carrier yourself.

  • UAB “Eurospektras” in Vilnius runs cargo.lt. Trans.eu comes from Poland and has operated since 2004. TIMOCOM has its headquarters in Erkrath, Germany.
  • LINAVA, the Lithuanian road carriers’ association, has a public member search by region, vehicle type and country. LINEKA, the forwarders’ association, lists its members online.
  • According to Eurostat, trucks registered in Lithuania carried 138 million tonnes of goods in 2025. International trips made up 92% of their tonne-kilometres.
  • Before the first load, check the company in the Register of Legal Entities, its VAT number in VIES, the carrier’s licence and its debts.

Four ways to get a truck in Lithuania

A Lithuanian company gets a truck in four ways. You can book a forwarder, agree a load with a carrier directly, post it on a freight exchange, or send a few pallets with a groupage or parcel service. The ways differ in who finds and checks the truck, how many invoices you get and how much work you do.

A forwarder (ekspeditorius) books the carrier for you. A carrier (vežėjas) owns the trucks. Our guide on forwarders and carriers explains who is liable for the goods.

Freight exchanges in Lithuania: cargo.lt, Trans.eu and TIMOCOM

cargo.lt, Trans.eu and TIMOCOM are online freight exchanges. Registered companies post loads and free trucks there, then agree the price and the order between themselves. All three describe on their websites how they check companies. The table lists only what each exchange states about itself. We checked on 20 October 2026.

In our experience, most companies on an exchange are carriers and forwarders. A shipper can post a load too. Then the shipper checks the carrier, sends the order and follows the truck itself. Our freight exchange guide explains each step.

RNJ Transport works on all three exchanges and uses them to find extra trucks. On 19 October 2026, companies had written 15 reviews about us on cargo.lt. None of them was negative. Our reviews page quotes them.

Other places to find a forwarder or carrier

Besides freight exchanges, Lithuanian companies find a forwarder or carrier through people they know, the two transport associations and web search. Start with a colleague, a supplier or a customer who ships on your route. A recommended company has already worked with someone you know. Still, check the register and the licence yourself.

LINAVA, the Lithuanian National Road Carriers’ Association, has a public member search. You can filter by region, such as Šiauliai, by vehicle type, ADR, TIR membership and destination country. Results show the company code, VAT number, address and phone. Members supply this data, so compare it with the register.

LINEKA, the Lithuanian National Association of Forwarders and Logistics, was founded in 1993 and is a member of FIATA, the international federation of forwarders’ associations. LINEKA states that it represents over 40 companies and organisations. Its membership page (Narystė) lists them with their websites.

In October 2026, a city search such as “krovinių pervežimas Kaune” (freight transport in Kaunas) showed mostly local delivery and moving services, classified ads and service directories. You book a load abroad the same way in every city.

If your company has no forwarder yet, follow these five steps for your first load.

  1. Describe the load

Addresses with postcodes, dates, pallets and their size, weight, and whether they stack.

  2. Ask people you know

Ask a colleague, supplier or customer who moves their loads on that route.

  3. Add names from the lists

Search LINAVA for carriers and the LINEKA list for forwarders.

  4. Ask two or three for a price

Send each company the same details, so you compare the same job.

  5. Check the company you choose

Register, VIES, licence and debts, before the first load.

About 72% of these were on trips between two other countries. Eurostat counts carriers and removal companies together in the 7,496 (NACE H49.4). Most are small. In 2024, 6,059 of them employed fewer than ten people.

A ten-minute first check of a new company

A first online check of a new transport company takes about ten minutes. Find it in the Register of Legal Entities, then check its VAT number in VIES, the carrier’s licence and its debts. On an exchange, also read its rating. Our guide to checking a freight forwarder lists every check and where to make it.

Our guide on booking mistakes lists the twelve details we need to price a load.

  • Register: active status and registered activity in the free Registrų centras search
  • VAT number: shown as valid in VIES, the European Commission’s check
  • Licence: the carrier’s EU Community licence number and expiry date
  • Debts: VMI tax and Sodra social insurance debts by company code
  • Contacts: phone and email domain match the register and the website

Frequently asked questions

  1. Where can I find a carrier for a load in Lithuania?

In four ways. Book a forwarder, agree the load with a carrier, post it on a freight exchange such as cargo.lt, Trans.eu or TIMOCOM, or send a few pallets with a groupage service. For names, ask colleagues and suppliers, or search LINAVA and LINEKA. Check every new company in the register and VIES.

  2. Can a shipper post a load on cargo.lt?

Yes, after registering. The cargo.lt rules define a user as a registered natural or legal person. You may post a load only if your company is a party to the contract for it. Some services are paid. After posting, you check the carrier, send the order and follow the truck yourself. Our freight exchange guide explains how this works.

  3. Can I find a carrier through LINAVA or LINEKA?

Yes. LINAVA, the road carriers’ association, has a public member search by region, vehicle type, ADR and destination country. LINEKA, the forwarders’ association, lists its members and their websites on its membership page. LINAVA members supply their own data, so check each company in the register before the first load.

  4. How many road freight companies are there in Lithuania?

7,496 in 2024, according to Eurostat. The number counts road freight and removal companies together, and 6,059 of them employed fewer than ten people. Trucks registered in Lithuania carried 138 million tonnes of goods in 2025, and 92% of their tonne-kilometres were on international trips.

  5. Does RNJ Transport take loads from companies outside Klaipėda?

Yes. RNJ Transport moves full loads between Lithuanian cities, factories, warehouses and Klaipėda port. Abroad, our main routes run from the Netherlands and Belgium to Lithuania and Latvia, between Lithuania and Sweden or Norway, and between Germany and the Baltic states. Send the route, the date and the load size in the price form.
