Road freight for companies in Dzūkija, south Lithuania

Dzūkija, also called Dainava, is the forested south of Lithuania, and its companies, from Alytus to the towns near Vilnius, ship full truckloads with RNJ Transport. The region makes appliances, furniture, textiles, timber and bottled water. Kalvarija, on the Polish border, is close to its western towns. Exports usually go with partner carriers that we check.

  • Alytus county is the most forested county in Lithuania, with 44% forest, and makes about 5.3% of the country’s industrial output.
  • Dzūkija has no free economic zone; its organised industrial site is the city-run Alytus industrial park.
  • In the south-west of the region, the Šeštokai intermodal terminal and Mockava station give a rail link to Poland.
  • The A1 crosses the Vilnius-side towns of Elektrėnai and Trakai district, while Varėna lies on the highway from Vilnius to Druskininkai.

Industry across Dzūkija

Alytus is the industrial centre of Dzūkija, with refrigerators, machinery, furniture and textiles. Around it, Varėna makes home textiles, dairy and bottled water, and Lazdijai makes clothing, building materials and food. Druskininkai and Birštonas are spa resorts, and Druskininkai also bottles mineral water and cans vegetables and sauces. Forest covers much of the region, so wood is everywhere.

Near Vilnius, the region takes in a second belt of towns. Elektrėnai has the national power plant, wood processing and food plants, with industry in Elektrėnai and Vievis. Trakai district makes metal products, plastic windows, wood, food and carpets in Trakai and Lentvaris. Šalčininkai district bakes bread and makes wood, metal products and building materials.

Frequently asked questions

  1. Do you collect in any town of Dzūkija, not only in Alytus?

Yes. We collect in Alytus, Varėna, Lazdijai, Druskininkai, Elektrėnai, Trakai, Šalčininkai and the smaller towns around them. Send the exact address, the loading day and the load size. Our own trucks handle domestic and Swedish runs when free, and checked partners the rest.

  2. Do you run Dzūkija loads to Klaipėda port and Scandinavia?

Yes. The trucks head north to Kaunas, join the A1 and reach Klaipėda, where ferries sail to Sweden and Germany. Swedish deliveries use our own trucks when we have one free. Norway loads also need customs papers, which our partner customs broker writes.

  3. Can you bring materials from Poland or Germany to Alytus, Varėna or Lazdijai?

Yes. Partner trucks that we check enter Lithuania at Kalvarija, which is close to the region’s western towns. From there they reach Alytus, Lazdijai or Varėna on regional roads. Give the supplier’s address, the town and the date you need the goods.

  4. Do you carry bottled water from Druskininkai or Varėna?

Yes. Bottled mineral water and soft drinks on pallets travel as heavy full loads on a curtainsider. We check the weight against the trailer’s payload before loading. Druskininkai and Varėna both bottle water, so we plan loads from either town.
