Via Toll: Lithuania’s road toll per kilometre from 1 January 2027
RNJ Transport moves loads to and from Lithuania, where the road toll changes on 1 January 2027. Vignettes end, and Via Toll charges vans, trucks and buses per kilometre on toll roads. A Euro 6 truck over 12 tonnes in CO2 class 1 pays 0.111 to 0.118 EUR per km. Carriers include the toll in the transport price.
- Via Toll starts on 1 January 2027, according to Via Lietuva, the state road company. Vehicles in categories M2, M3, N1, N2 and N3 then pay per kilometre on Lithuanian toll roads. Passenger cars (M1) do not pay.
- Annual vignettes have not been on sale since 1 July 2026. Until 31 December 2026, carriers buy vignettes for a day, a week or a month. Every vignette ends on 31 December 2026.
- LTSA set the 2027 rates. A Euro 6 truck over 12 tonnes in CO2 class 1 pays 0.111 EUR per km with up to 3 axles, 0.115 EUR with 4 axles and 0.118 EUR with 5 or more axles.
- Carriers record the distance with the Via Toll app or an on-board unit, or pay through an EETS provider. The self-service portal sells single-route tickets. Cash is not accepted.
- The toll roads are main and regional state roads, 2,851 km in total, according to a Via Lietuva presentation from June 2026.
Via Toll start date and the end of vignettes
Via Toll is Lithuania’s new road toll per kilometre. The system starts on 1 January 2027 and replaces the vignettes that carriers buy today for a fixed period. Via Lietuva, the state road company, runs Via Toll. Vans, trucks and buses pay it on toll roads. Passenger cars do not pay.

The vignettes end in two steps. Since 1 July 2026, carriers can no longer buy annual vignettes. Until the end of 2026, they can buy vignettes for a day, a week or a month. Every vignette bought in 2026 ends on 31 December 2026. Via Lietuva refunds the unused part of annual vignettes only. Applications open in early 2027.
Via Lietuva describes Via Toll as a new way to calculate the road user charge that Lithuania has had for more than ten years. The money goes to the State Road Fund for road repairs, reconstruction and bridges. EU rules require member states to end vignettes on the TEN-T road network by 2030, with some exceptions.
Via Toll rates per kilometre in 2027
LTSA, the Lithuanian Transport Safety Administration, calculated and approved the Via Toll rates from 1 January 2027. A Euro 6 truck over 12 tonnes in CO2 class 1 pays 0.111 EUR per km with up to 3 axles. With 4 axles it pays 0.115 EUR, and with 5 or more axles 0.118 EUR. Older Euro classes pay more.
The rate depends on the vehicle category, its maximum permissible mass, the number of axles, the Euro class, the CO2 class and the fuel type. Each rate has an infrastructure part and a CO2 part. EU rules have required tolls for heavy trucks to change with CO2 emissions since 2024. Cleaner CO2 classes pay less.
Lighter vehicles pay less. A Euro 6 van in category N1, up to 3.5 tonnes, pays 0.035 EUR per km. A Euro 6 truck in category N2, over 3.5 and up to 12 tonnes, pays 0.074 EUR per km with two axles. For exemptions, check with Via Lietuva.
| Euro class | Up to 3 axles | 4 axles | 5 or more axles |
|---|---|---|---|
| Euro 6 | 0.111 | 0.115 | 0.118 |
| Euro 5 | 0.132 | 0.138 | 0.141 |
| Euro 4 | 0.155 | 0.161 | 0.165 |
| Euro 3 | 0.177 | 0.184 | 0.189 |
Vehicles and roads that pay the Lithuanian toll
Via Toll applies to minibuses and buses (M2, M3), vans and light goods vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes (N1) and trucks (N2, N3). These are the same categories that need a vignette today. Passenger cars in category M1 do not pay. The toll applies only on main and regional state roads with a toll.
Via Lietuva manages more than 21,000 km of state roads. The toll roads cover 2,851 km of them, according to a Via Lietuva presentation from June 2026. Via Lietuva publishes a map of them on its Via Toll page. The weight class uses the maximum permissible mass of the vehicle, as the LTSA rate tables show.
Vehicles registered abroad pay the toll too. Via Lietuva points foreign carriers to EETS providers, and to single-route tickets for a one-time transit. For a vehicle registered in Lithuania, the system reads the technical data from the vehicle register (Regitra) when the carrier enters the plate number. The system then picks the rate.
Cameras on the toll road sections check each vehicle. They see whether the Via Toll app is on, an OBU is fitted or a ticket is valid.
Ways to pay Via Toll
Carriers choose how to record and pay the toll. The driver starts the free Via Toll app before each trip on toll roads, and the app records the distance. Larger fleets can use an on-board unit (OBU) from a provider that works with Via Toll. Carriers with a European Electronic Toll Service (EETS) contract need no extra registration in Lithuania.
An OBU is not required. The self-service portal sells single-route tickets in advance, for example for a one-time transit or a driver without a smartphone. The app and the portal take payment by online banking, bank card or fuel card. Cash is not accepted. Today, vignettes are also sold at physical sales points. From 2027, carriers pay only through the app, the portal or a provider.
Before 1 January 2027, carriers prepare in three ways.
- They register for Via Toll when Via Lietuva opens access. Via Lietuva plans this after its system tests, before the end of 2026.
- Carriers who pay with a fuel card, an OBU or an EETS contract ask their provider now whether it is preparing to join Via Toll.
- They plan the last vignettes of 2026. A month vignette bought in December still ends on 31 December 2026, and only annual vignettes get a refund.
Via Toll and the price of freight in and through Lithuania
From 2027, the Lithuanian toll on a load follows its kilometres on Lithuanian toll roads. A long trip pays more than a short one. Via Lietuva expects only a small effect on the final price of goods, because distances in Lithuania are short and a road charge already exists. Carriers include the toll in the transport price.
A load in transit, for example from Latvia to Poland, pays for each kilometre on Lithuanian toll roads. Via Lietuva says the Lithuanian rates will be among the lowest in Europe. Other countries on the route charge their own tolls, so the total depends on the route, the truck and the date.
Every load to or from Lithuania drives on Lithuanian roads, and so do our own trucks between Lithuania and Sweden. With RNJ Transport, road tolls are included in the one price we agree with you for the load, and you get one invoice. For loads in 2027, send the route, the date and the load size in the price form.
- Ask for an all-in price that includes road tolls for every load with Lithuanian kilometres from 1 January 2027.
- For contracts that last into 2027, agree in writing how the price covers road tolls.
- Send both full addresses when you ask for a price. The route sets the kilometres on toll roads.
Worked example: Via Toll per 100 km and per 300 km
The example shows the Via Toll charge for one trip on Lithuanian toll roads in 2027. The numbers are an illustration only and show the toll alone. The toll is the rate per km multiplied by the kilometres on toll roads. The example counts every kilometre as a toll road.
All rows use CO2 class 1, the class with the highest rates. The real amount appears in the carrier’s Via Toll account or on the provider’s invoice. Kilometres on roads without a toll add nothing.
| Vehicle | Rate per km | 100 km | 300 km |
|---|---|---|---|
| Truck over 12 t, Euro 6, up to 3 axles | 0.111 EUR | 11.10 EUR | 33.30 EUR |
| Truck over 12 t, Euro 6, 4 axles | 0.115 EUR | 11.50 EUR | 34.50 EUR |
| Truck over 12 t, Euro 6, 5 or more axles | 0.118 EUR | 11.80 EUR | 35.40 EUR |
| Truck over 12 t, Euro 5, 5 or more axles | 0.141 EUR | 14.10 EUR | 42.30 EUR |
| Van up to 3.5 t, Euro 6 | 0.035 EUR | 3.50 EUR | 10.50 EUR |
Frequently asked questions
-
When does Via Toll start in Lithuania?
On 1 January 2027. From that day, vans, trucks and buses pay a toll per kilometre on Lithuanian toll roads instead of vignettes. Since 1 July 2026, carriers can only buy vignettes for a day, a week or a month. Every vignette bought in 2026 ends on 31 December 2026.
-
How much is the Lithuanian road toll per km for a truck?
0.111 to 0.118 EUR per km for a Euro 6 truck over 12 tonnes in CO2 class 1. The rate depends on the number of axles. LTSA set these rates for 2027. A Euro 5 truck over 12 tonnes pays 0.132 to 0.141 EUR per km. A Euro 6 van up to 3.5 tonnes pays 0.035 EUR per km.
-
Do vans pay the Lithuanian road toll?
Yes. Vans and light goods vehicles in category N1, up to 3.5 tonnes, pay Via Toll from 1 January 2027. They need a vignette today as well. A Euro 6 van in CO2 class 1 pays 0.035 EUR per km. Passenger cars in category M1 do not pay.
-
Do foreign trucks need an on-board unit in Lithuania?
No. An OBU is not required. A foreign carrier can use the Via Toll app, buy a single-route ticket on the self-service portal, or pay through an EETS provider. With an EETS contract, the carrier needs no extra registration in Lithuania. Via Lietuva asks carriers to check now whether their provider is preparing to join Via Toll.
-
Can carriers still buy a Lithuanian vignette?
Yes, until 31 December 2026, for a day, a week or a month. Annual vignettes have not been on sale since 1 July 2026. Every vignette ends on 31 December 2026. Via Lietuva refunds the unused part of annual vignettes only, and applications open in early 2027. The form will be on vialietuva.lt.
-
Who pays the Lithuanian toll on my load?
The carrier pays it. The vehicle operator records the trip and pays the toll through Via Toll or its toll provider. The toll then becomes part of the transport price. The amount depends on the kilometres on Lithuanian toll roads and on the truck. With RNJ Transport, road tolls are included in the one price we agree for your load, and you get one invoice.
