Distances: the road route in OpenStreetMap (OSRM), from city centre to city centre, checked on 24 October 2026. Routes from Poland and further west enter Lithuania at the Budzisko and Kalvarija crossing. Driving time: 60 km/h on average with the breaks the EU rules require, without loading, queues or ferries. Mažeikiai industry beyond the refinery
Oil refining is the main industry in Mažeikiai district. The refinery near the city makes petrol, diesel, jet fuel, LPG, bitumen and sulphur. It also grew a local metalworking and machinery sector. Other plants make windows, doors, garage gates, furniture, and concrete and metal structures. Food plants produce ice cream, bread, meat products and beer.
The refinery employs almost 1,500 people. About 4,500 more jobs depend on service and subcontracting firms around it, and many of these firms work with metal and machinery. Next to the refinery, two plots at Juodeikiai, of 12.66 and 2.09 ha, have a rail link. They are zoned for industry and warehousing.

Roads and rail from Mažeikiai to Latvia and the port
Road 163 runs north from Mažeikiai to the Ezere crossing and continues into Latvia towards Saldus. Via Lietuva calls it an important transport artery between the two countries. Other roads lead to Telšiai, Šiauliai and Skuodas. For Riga, trucks can also use the Meitene crossing on the A12, about 105 km from the city.
Mažeikiai is a rail border town too. One line runs from the city to Latvia, and another links it with Kužiai near Šiauliai. Loads for Sweden and Germany reach the ferries in Klaipėda by road. For Poland, trucks drive south across Lithuania to the Kalvarija–Budzisko crossing.

Do you carry fuel or other refinery products from Mažeikiai?
No. RNJ Transport does not carry dangerous goods (ADR), and fuel, gas and many chemical products are dangerous goods. We do carry what refinery suppliers move: equipment, spare parts, steel structures, tools and building materials that are not classed as dangerous. How close is Mažeikiai to Latvia?
About 12 km to the Ezere crossing. Road 163 leads north from the city to it, and Via Lietuva rebuilt the road in 2020. For Riga, the Meitene crossing on the A12 is the other option, about 105 km away. We plan loads to Latvia and Estonia with checked partner carriers, and one contact person at our office follows each load.

Can you deliver equipment from Germany to the Juodeikiai industrial area?
Yes. Loads from Germany to the Baltic states are one of our main routes, served by checked partner carriers. The Juodeikiai plots next to the refinery have asphalt road access, so a standard truck can reach them. Send the sizes and weights first, so we can check that the load fits a standard curtainsider trailer.

Yes. Packed windows, doors and garage gates travel on a curtainsider trailer when they stand on pallets or racks.
