Plungė industry and the new industrial park

Plungė is a town of factories. An analysis for Lithuania’s national comprehensive plan names it an economic growth centre with industry as its priority. Food processing is the largest sector, next to road building, construction and wood processing. Most plants stand in and around the town. Fish processing for export is a long-standing local specialty.

The new Plungė industrial park will cover more than 100 ha. The Government set its boundaries, and the municipality is buying the land plot by plot. A ready plot of 2 ha at Salantų street 1A is zoned for industry and warehousing.

Rietavas, timber and windows

Rietavas is a small town of about 3,100 people, 22 km south of Plungė. Forest covers more than half of its municipality, so timber and wood products are the main local freight. Branches of three window makers work in the area, and peat is extracted nearby. The A1 motorway between Kaunas and Klaipėda is about 11 km away.

We collect full loads of windows, sawn timber and peat in Rietavas for buyers in Lithuania and other countries. Tell us how the windows are packed and give their sizes, so we can check the fit in a standard curtainsider trailer.

From Plungė to the port, the ferries and the borders

Plungė lies on the A11 road, which links Šiauliai with Kretinga and Palanga as part of the E272 route. Plungė station sits on the Šiauliai–Klaipėda line, the EU core rail link to the port. In Klaipėda, our own trucks board the ferry to Karlshamn in Sweden. Partner carriers can take the ferry to Kiel in Germany.

Two crossings to Latvia are near Plungė. The Būtingė crossing on the coast is about 66 km away, and Ezere, through Mažeikiai, is about 69 km away. Trucks to Poland cross the border at Kalvarija and Budzisko.

Frequently asked questions

  1. Is Plungė far from the ferries in Klaipėda?

No. Plungė is about 60 km from Klaipėda by road, and the truck ferries leave from the port there. Ferries sail to Karlshamn and Trelleborg in Sweden, and to Kiel and Travemünde in Germany. We choose the sailing that fits your loading date and the delivery address.

  2. Can you carry chilled fish products from Plungė?

Yes. Chilled fish goes on a partner reefer truck, because our own trucks have no refrigerated trailers. We find a checked partner with a refrigerated trailer and plan the load with you. Send the temperature the load needs, the pallet count and the delivery address. The invoice still comes from RNJ Transport.

  3. Do you bring raw materials to Plungė from the Netherlands or Belgium?

Yes. Benelux to Lithuania is our main route. A checked partner truck collects at your supplier and brings the full load to your plant in Plungė. Send both addresses, the dates and what the load is in the request form.

  4. Do you also collect loads in Rietavas?

Yes. Rietavas is 22 km from Plungė and about 11 km from the A1 motorway, so a truck reaches it easily. We load windows, timber and peat there and deliver them in Lithuania or abroad. Give the exact address and the loading hours in the request form.

  5. Do your own trucks run from Plungė to Sweden?

Yes, when one is free on your dates. Lithuania–Sweden is the route our own trucks run most, with the ferry from Klaipėda to Karlshamn. Their curtainsider trailers suit pallets and packed goods, such as wood products or packed food. When our trucks are busy, a checked partner carrier runs the same load.
