Road freight for companies across Žemaitija (Samogitia)

Companies anywhere in Žemaitija, the region of western Lithuania also called Samogitia, can send full truckloads with RNJ Transport. Its plants make furniture, dairy products, metal goods, rubber parts and peat. Main roads lead west to Klaipėda port and its ferries. For loads inside Lithuania or to Sweden, we first check whether our own truck is free.

Industry across Žemaitija and what it ships

Žemaitija is a manufacturing region. Manufacturing gives Telšiai county more than 30% of its value added, which Invest Lithuania says sets it apart from other regions. Dairies, fish and meat plants, furniture makers and metalworking firms work across Žemaitija, and an oil refinery stands near Mažeikiai. Tauragė adds rubber and plastics, and Naujoji Akmenė makes cement.

Peat is extracted in Telšiai, Rietavas, Kelmė and Tauragė districts. Furniture plants around Šiauliai work for a global furniture retailer. Most of these goods leave the region as full truckloads on pallets.

Main roads, rail and the way to Klaipėda port

Three main roads cross Žemaitija. The A1 motorway from Kaunas to Klaipėda runs through the south of the region. The A11, part of the E272 route, links Šiauliai with Telšiai, Plungė, Kretinga and Palanga. The A12, on Pan-European corridor IA, runs from Riga through Šiauliai and Kelmė to Tauragė.

Rail freight to the port uses the EU core line from Šiauliai through Telšiai, Plungė and Kretinga. In Klaipėda, truck ferries sail to Sweden, Germany and Denmark. RNJ Transport uses the Karlshamn route for its own trucks to Sweden.

Crossings to Latvia and the road to Poland

Žemaitija borders Latvia in the north, and four road crossings serve it. Būtingė lies near the coast, and a road runs from Skuodas to Priekule. Ezere is north of Mažeikiai, and Meitene is on the A12 towards Riga. Checked partners carry these loads north into Latvia and Estonia.

For Poland, trucks drive to Kaunas and take Via Baltica to the border at Kalvarija. From the south of the region, the road through Jurbarkas, Šakiai and Marijampolė is shorter.

Frequently asked questions

  1. Do you collect full loads anywhere in Žemaitija?

Yes. We collect in towns, industrial parks and factory yards across the region. Collections run from Skuodas and Mažeikiai in the north to Raseiniai and Jurbarkas in the south. Send the full loading address and the hours when you load. Our own truck goes when one is free, and otherwise a checked partner carrier drives.

  2. How do loads from Žemaitija reach the ferries in Klaipėda?

By road. From the south of the region, trucks take the A1 motorway west to Klaipėda. From Telšiai, Plungė and Kretinga, they follow the A11 towards the coast. Our own trucks sail from Klaipėda to Karlshamn in Sweden, and partner carriers use the ferries to Kiel and other ports.

  3. What do you carry from Žemaitija, and what not?

We carry packed goods that fill a truck. Typical loads are furniture, timber, pellets, metal structures, rubber and plastic parts, textiles, peat and building materials. Chilled food goes on partner reefer trucks. Fuel and chemicals classed as dangerous goods (ADR) are not loads we take.

  4. Do you deliver to Žemaitija from the Netherlands, Belgium or Germany?

Yes. Benelux and German loads into Lithuania are our main routes, run with checked partner carriers. Trucks reach Žemaitija through Poland and Kaunas, or by ferry from Kiel to Klaipėda. The request form asks for the collection address, the delivery town and the dates.

  5. Which towns belong to Žemaitija?

Telšiai, the capital, and Plungė, Mažeikiai, Rietavas, Skuodas, Šilalė, Kelmė, Raseiniai and Naujoji Akmenė lie fully in Žemaitija, as does Šiauliai city. Gargždai, Kretinga, Palanga, Tauragė and Jurbarkas belong to it too. The official 2025 map draws the border by eldership, so parts of some of their municipalities are in Lithuania Minor.
