Road freight for companies in Šiauliai and its free economic zone

Manufacturers in Šiauliai, the largest city of northern Lithuania, can ship full truckloads through RNJ Transport. The city has a free economic zone, an industrial park and a cargo airport. Klaipėda port is about 175 km away by road. Our own trucks can carry Swedish loads, and checked partners serve Norway, Germany and the Benelux.

  • The Šiauliai free economic zone covers 132 ha, with plots of 1 to 25 ha next to the main roads and the airport.
  • A rail track serves both the Šiauliai industrial park and the free economic zone, and a public intermodal terminal stands beside them.
  • Šiauliai lies on the EU core rail line between Kaunas and Klaipėda, and a second line runs north to Latvia.
  • The largest foreign investors in Šiauliai come from the Netherlands, Germany and Sweden, according to the city.

Šiauliai industry and its exports

Šiauliai makes electronics, metal products and furniture, and logistics is one of its main skills. Invest Lithuania adds bicycles and e-bikes, heating and ventilation equipment, electrical equipment, household appliances and building materials. A furniture cluster in the area makes soft and wooden furniture for a global retail brand. One upholstered-furniture plant sells most of its sofas in the Nordic countries.

The largest bicycle factory in the Baltic states works in Šiauliai, and the plant says it can build up to 500,000 bicycles and e-bikes a year. Packed bicycles, sofas and appliances take up floor space rather than weight, so we plan the trailer by floor space.

Roads, rail and the airport around Šiauliai

Three main roads meet in Šiauliai. The A12 runs north to Meitene on the Latvian border, 54 km away, and on to Riga, and south-west to Tauragė. The A11 leads west to Telšiai and Palanga, and the A9 east to Panevėžys. Via Lietuva names the east-west corridor E272 from Vilnius to Palanga, which passes Panevėžys and Šiauliai.

Šiauliai International Airport lies 7 km from the city. It has a 3,500 m runway, works 24 hours a day and has cold storage for cargo. Truck ferries to Sweden and Germany leave from Klaipėda, the end of the rail line and of the A11 corridor to the coast.

Frequently asked questions

  1. Can you take a full load from the Šiauliai free economic zone to Sweden?

Yes. The truck drives about 175 km to Klaipėda and crosses on the Karlshamn ferry. Our own truck takes Swedish loads when it can. Otherwise a checked partner drives. Send the plot address in the zone, the loading time and the number of pallets.

  2. Do you carry bicycles and upholstered furniture from Šiauliai?

Yes. Packed bicycles, sofas and armchairs travel on curtainsider trailers and fill the floor before the weight limit. We deliver them to Scandinavia, Germany and the Benelux. Norway needs export and import declarations, and a partner customs broker prepares them as part of the same booking.

  3. Can you bring components from the Netherlands to the Šiauliai industrial park?

Yes. Inbound loads from the Netherlands and Belgium are our main international work. A checked partner truck loads at your supplier’s site, enters Lithuania through Poland and delivers to your gate in the park. The park and the zone also have rail track, but we deliver by road.

  4. Is Šiauliai in Žemaitija or Aukštaitija?

Žemaitija. On the ethnographic map that EKGT approved in 2025, Šiauliai city belongs to Žemaitija, while Radviliškis, Joniškis and Pakruojis to the east are in Aukštaitija. For freight the line makes no difference. The A12, A11 and A9 connect Šiauliai with both regions.

  5. Do you deliver from Šiauliai to Riga?

Yes. Riga lies about 130 km north on the A12, across the border at Meitene. Checked partner carriers deliver to Riga, its port or other Latvian addresses. Give us the Latvian address and the date, and our team plans the load.
