The road to Daugavpils and the long way to the port
A regional road connects Visaginas with the A6, the Kaunas–Daugavpils road. Northbound, the Medumi crossing is about 29 km from the town and Daugavpils about 54 km. Southbound, the A6 and the A14 lead to Utena and Vilnius, about 150 km away, and on to Kaunas. The Vilnius–Daugavpils railway crosses the municipality.
Klaipėda port is about 400 km away, and Poland about 295 km to the south-west, at Kalvarija. For loads to Riga and Estonia, the road through Daugavpils is often the natural start.
