Šilutė district works with wood, stone, milk and peat. Its plants make furniture, cast stone such as artificial marble and granite, cheese and butter, and flour. The district also has fur sewing and peat extraction. One furniture maker exports about 90% of its output. Industry sits in Šilutė, Rusnė, Švėkšna and Žemaičių Naumiestis.

Road, rail and water around Šilutė

Šilutė lies on the road from Kaunas through Jurbarkas to Klaipėda, which follows the Nemunas river. Šilutė station is on the Klaipėda–Pagėgiai railway, part of the EU comprehensive network. The Nemunas and Curonian Lagoon waterway between Klaipėda and Kaunas also crosses the district. The state waterways authority uses it for cargo voyages, including oversized loads.

Ferries and borders for Šilutė loads

For Sweden, our own trucks drive from Šilutė to Klaipėda and take the ferry to Karlshamn. For Germany, partner carriers compare the Kiel ferry with the road through Poland. Trucks for Poland enter it at Budzisko, across the border from Kalvarija. The nearest crossing to Latvia is Būtingė on the coast, about 91 km away.

  1. Do you carry furniture from Šilutė to Germany and Scandinavia?

    Yes. We plan full furniture loads from Šilutė to Sweden, Norway, Germany and the Benelux. Our own trucks take Swedish loads when they are free, through the Klaipėda–Karlshamn ferry. Other countries go with checked partner carriers. For Norway, a partner customs broker handles the export and import papers, booked together with the transport.
